Hi all,
Here are instructions for this weekend Challenge:
All levels of drawing are encouraged to participate!
The goal of this thread is to enable and encourage individuals to practice their drawing skills, learn new techniques and have fun! If you just want to sketch that’s fine. If you want to create a complex, detailed drawing, that’s great too. You will get out of this what you want. The references used are from my own personal reference library of images that I have photographed and I release them here as not under copyright, meaning you can use them as you wish for drawing.
You will be challenged by some aspect of all references most likely as you all will have different strengths and weaknesses in your ability to translate the images to paper.
Reminder:
1.- This is a DRAWING challenge. Therefore please confine your artistic endeavours to some form of drawing: graphite, coloured pencil, pen and ink or charcoal.
2.- There is no ruling on what size your final drawing or sketch should be. Smaller, sketchbook sizes will provide a smaller file size which is easier for loading onto the thread.
3.- If you would like assistance or advice, please ask for it and I will be more than willing to try to guide you.
4.- This challenge will last for one week. At that time, all challenge drawings should be submitted to this thread.
I have offered 4 reference images to choose from. The images are also provided in greyscale. Seeing the images in black and white gives a better sense of basic values.
I have kept the images to simple shapes that still provide challenges. Block out your basic shapes first then work the details into them, rechecking proportion and measurement against other reference points in your drawing.
If you have an interest in hosting a challenge, please see the list in the pinned area of general discussions.
Here are photographs, enjoy

Great job Kim. But where's the wine?

I would be tempted to add the wine to this one.

Great job Kim. But where's the wine?

I would be tempted to add the wine to this one.

Fine drawing, Kim
!
(Bobby: champagne or white wine is not easy to draw, especially when one has just emptied the glass)

I'm sure a moderator could take care of the misplaced post for you. If any of us laugh it's only because we've done the same thing before.
Your drawing is amazing, another winner. Did you use some sort of swirly manuever with a kneaded eraser on the stone ground & wall to add to the texture? Your technique to produce these impressive drawings still eludes me. You're truly a talented lady.

Thank you !!You have managed to help me shake the geeky post I made

.. Whew .. glad someone has been there too..
I don't know sometimes how I do a lot of what I do when I draw., Mindy. I did do a lot of swirling with my pencils in the beginning .. as it kept building I used some kneaded eraser .. but also have an eraser called Magic Rub .. you know the kind .. on a white pencil and as you wear it down you pull this string and it unwraps more of the eraser .. At any rate I sort of went in there and dug it into some spots that needed to be lighter and the effect was what you see. some very unintentional and even some surprised me..
I like these dark drawings very much .. I will master a few light ones one day like Kim's glass.. I am all thumbs for now since I have never used colored pencils.. So that will be another Challenge ..
Thanks for you comments!

Nope... I checked it out and it will let me delete my last post on it but it won't let me delete the original "New Topic" ..even if I was the one who started it.. I'm doomed !!
Tam said it would self destruct in thirty seconds .. Nope .. That didn't work either ..

Este es el loro que come granos de oro.Just kidding, Rafael.

Oil pastels on Canson mi teints dark blue pad 8.5x11in; one hour, some fun; not too much as I am not satisfied with the head area, too small for the thick pastels when it comes to subtle definition.
Thank you for the challenge, Rafael.

Hello again!
Here the second drawing. But as I scanned it I noticed that a lot of details are wrong... and the foto is not the best: my paper is white!
Click to view attachmentWell, I'll try to work on my foto technique too. Please C&C, to help a poor beginner!

meltingpot, I like your interpretation of flower, and cannon.
this challenge is for practice and this is not a place too heavy critics.
in your second drawing, I only say that you need pay more attention to perspective.

I thought this flower looked quite easy, but once I started, it was more complicated than I thought. I used coloured pencils on cartridge paper.

Thank you Rafael for encouraging me! I'm afraid perspective is one of the keys to realize good drawings. I had drawn help lines, but I suppose they were simply wrong...

And I worked so long on it (when I read how long the people here need to draw, I'm always speechless)...
I have to try it again.
