Hey guys,

Just wanted to know what particular software (if any) you use for drawings.

Adobe's products? Or the new Microsoft Expression Graphic Designer?

Or is the pencil and paper good enough?

Thanks for the input.

Do you mean for digital drawings sjerads? Or for photo editing or graphic alterations?

My graphic program to enhance, or resize images or photos is Adobe Photoshop. The program I use with my cybertablet is Artrage. Other than that, everything I do is done by hand with pencil or paint.

Sjerads... I think you can use any digital art program to create a drawing ...myself I use pencil and paper .. but many use the programs . my husband uses Paint shop pro and has alot of filters .. he cant draw a straight line with a pencil . smile.gif but his computer art is just beautiful .

I use adobe photoshop 7 for most digital painting, but I sometimes use Painter and Artrage smile.gif

Most of my stuff now is done with pen, pencil and paper though

Yup, I mean for digital drawings. By that I mean instead of getting the supplies listed in that lesson (Buying Drawing Supplies), could one get a tablet and an "all - in - one" computer program that has all the items?

I will do some research on the various programs here. See I am kindda a computer geek, and I would like to do all my drawings and stuff on the PC. In anycase, I will have to learn AutoCAD to practice my architecture design skills.

I paint and draw digitally (I use traditional pencils/colored pencils here though) & I don't think you can beat Corel's Painter for life-like tools. I think most of the other software are designed for things like photo editing, illustration, etc. I use Painter 1X and a Wacom tablet & love it. The only filters I ever use with it are the ones for paper texture sometimes. You just don't need the filters. There is a feature for turning photos into paintings, but I honestly have never tried it & have no idea of how it works.

I have the original Expression (3?) that MicroSoft offered for free when they bought the software & I love playing with it but I consider that an illustration type software. Of course, I don't know what the new version is like so it may be vastly different than the version I have.

My advice is to download free trials of any software you think you might like & just play with it as much as you can. That way you'll know which you prefer before you make a major investment.

To be honest, there's no real substitution for traditional media. I do do most of my artwork on computer, but I spend an awful lot of time just doodling in my sketchpad, and without skills learnt from normal pencil and paper drawing, I'd be pretty useless digitally.

By all means, give digital painting a shot, but don't disregard traditional. Sketchpads and pencils are cheap, and more portable than even a laptop. Dabble in both and see what you prefer and get best results with smile.gif
