Well since Oliver and Jazz/Kay hasn't come back yet to lead the pack, I will start this. I sure miss Kay.

The theme is favorite flowers and plants as suggested by Bigs...please lets do some of our best work on these cards ..we can start sign up now and give ourselves a week, end sign up on the 7th of Jan, to let others decide if they would like to participate and have until Feb 7th, that's four weeks to put out some really cute cards

For those who are just tuning in ...this is a art card exchange .....done in any medium ...the size must be that of a trading card, 2.5x3.5 inches...please stick to the theme and most of all have fun .

Please understand if you commit to doing the exchange you must finish all cards and get them out by the dead line of Feb 9th...if you fail to do so you may not be allowed to join other trades in DS .

Favorite plants and flowers...so again..lets stick to the theme..do our best work and most of all have fun!

As you sign up, please pm to me your postal address so that we can get the list out to everyone as soon as signup is finished.

Thanks. Jeanne

We wait a week to get everyone signed up. Then I pm everyone the list of names and addresses. Then you have a month to do original art cards for each member and send them to them in the mail. We post our cards after we receive them or like some do...post them all together at the end.

We usually have about 10 people in a trade.

Please count me in too. Norma

Count me in !

it's just like Secret Santa, but without guessing, right ? Everyone gets something from everyone thru mail !? That sounds great !

Well maybe it will make you feel like it. I'm on the West coast so we just finished our summer lol. Cold here now but I'm sure not like NY.

Wish I could join in, but I sure hate drawing flowers! smile.gif I'll be watching this progress.

where do I get 2.5x3.5 sketch pad my smallest pad is 3x5 which has a spot in my coat pocket along with a couple #2 pencils, not ideal working material but I keep forgetting to change pencils even when I have a whole box of them in front of me. (sigh)

Favorite plants and flowers...so again..lets stick to the theme..do our best work and most of all have fun

So if we put them all on sticks and stick them in the flower pot ,,, yep spring would be early ,,, tongue.gif ,,, just noting the "cold NY"

I usually cut up a sheet of decent weight watercolour paper into 3" x 4" rectangles and tape one on to a board with masking tape, overlapping quarter of a inch. I draw or paint on that and then unstick the whole lot and cut off the masking tape. I've tried unpeeling it, but that can go wrong and some of the picture comes off too. Looking forward to getting cards again.
Jangra
You can buy the tiny pads at some art stores. The ones I have seen are Strathmore brand, and they were at Beverlys Art and Craft Store. But I usually just cut mine from a larger sheet. I use Bristol smooth. Just use a ruler and mark off as many on a sheet as you can fit of the size (2.5 x 3.5 inches).

Did you want to join the trade?
*Roxy*
I actually found some cards that size a few weeks ago at DeSerres. So I was already prepared.
*Roxy*
Aww my drawing looks terrible I kinda feel bad because i'm not as good as everyone else so my cards might look bad compared to the others. I'll try to fix it I thought I was better than that. sad.gif

We are all in various levels of drawing skill. We look forward to getting your cards. Besides artists are their own worst critics. Every sketch you do, every project or challenge you enter, even looking at other people's art, all help an artist to grow. We are all unsatisfied sometimes with our art. Not everything can be perfect.

Hi Jeanne and everybody,
I would like to participate in the ATC if there is room for one more. I am just begining to draw, so my flowers will surely look awful, but anyway I would like to give it a try.
Best regards.
Claudio

When anyone asks me what I paint or Draw.. My stock answer is .. " Anything but FLOWERS"..
This would be such a challenge for me and what better way than to force me by making a commitment.. That is if there is still room.. I'd like to start a card collection .. Always wanted to do this .. Too bad some poor soul will get mine .. I'd like to apologize now..
~~Sorry~~....

Hi Jeanne,

Please count me in. I'm so looking forward to spring and spring flowers.

I also miss our dear Kay.

So far we have 13 signed up. Is anyone going to have trouble getting a large group of cards finished in a month? I would rather not split the group if possible. From experience when a trade is longer than a month, people tend to forget and you don't always receive all your cards.

I plan to let people sign up tomorrow and then close it off. After all the holiday stuff, there may be some who were away for the weekend.

I started yesterday to do some previous sketches. Unfortunately, my first flower using my new watercolor pencils seemed as a bunch of eggs sad_an.gif
Just a philosophical question to the group: in this flowers and plants trade, do trees drawings count?
Have a good day

I use Photoshop Elements 4. It allows you to save a photo for the web. You can change the quality as well as the size.

I finished card no. 1 last night. I'm happy with it. Trying some new mediums with this trade, so don't expect my typical pencil work.

Any advice from you veterens on who gets what card? Should we throw out a poll question as to who likes what kind of flower / plant. I'd hate to send Jangra a Cactus if she had a bad run-in with one back in her partying days! ohmy.gif

On to card no.2 ..............................

Hmm it turns out Graphitint pencils are not the best choice for flowers. It's soluble graphite with a hint of color, but the colors are very subdued. My flowers are turning out dark & gothic looking. Just a warning to everyone, don't expect bright cheerful things from me this trade. rolleyes.gif

Well coach what I do is put them all upside down and mix them up and as I get an envelope addressed, I pick up one note on my list which one for whom and mail them. I have done them in a row starting with the one after my name and working thru the list back to my own name. But with these I usually have them all or mostly done before mailing. So I just "pick a card" but from the back so I won't see.

This time I will have more trouble as I have already put a name on them. Will have to close my eyes. You could number each and write down the names on strips of paper and draw a name, then draw a number.

Maybe this will give you an idea that will work for you.

Even in my partying days, I wasn't much of a partyer. More of a home body. And I got married at 21, 38 yrs ago. Whew, no wonder I'm turning 60 this year!

Hey... we need to do some Big O cards,, Ha !!
kim1963
I have not joined a trade in a long while ....two reasons ..one I had missing cards and when I ask about them they say its on the way but never gets here ....two little effort ...people join in and I know what they are able to put out and the cards you get are just not trade worthy ..... I do my best on my cards and I expect the same from who ever I trade with ...maybe people get too over whelmed with the amount of cards that need to be drawn ....myself I do not like to split a trade but it seems safer to do so to keep the odds in your favor that you will get all cards .

This is my first trade. I look at it as a way to work in different mediums and a subject I might not normally do. My wife and Mother in law have a flower shop, so maybe by working with the flowers I can come up with something they may be able to sell in their shop. I would hope participants in this put out a good effort towards each card. I know that is my plan.
texaslady-59
My first trade as well .. but golly I say no matter what I receive or don't receive the challenge was a good one .. Always will see something good come from any draw or paint I do.. No biggy if all the cards do not arrive to me ,, but should someone not receive one from me.. PLEASE let me know and I will try and do it again.. who knows what happens with snail mail !! I hear they sometimes hire gorillas to work in the Fragile packages department ..
Sorry that you had such a bad experience Kim..
Good luck on that Flower Shop Venture Coach !!
I doubt I will ever get that good when it comes to Flowers .. But I promise .. I am doing my very best ..
Jangra
Kim I know what you mean about not getting the cards. I am on many long term swaps on Wetcanvas and those have the same problem. They have 6 months but you still don't always get the cards.

The last one I was on here that split, I only got 3 out of 5. I like the shorter time limit as people don't have time to forget. The last few trades we have done, everyone has sent their cards as far as I know. I have just learned (from about 20+ swaps that I have done) that you run the risk of not receiving but the ones I do get, I treasure.

And on some of the swaps we have newer artists who are still learning or trying new techniques. I love being part of their quest. In fact I'm still learning. And I love this smaller artwork for practicing new mediums, etc.

This is the first one I have started in here and when it gets slow, I start talking to keep up a flow of conversation.

Hopefully one day you will try again. How is it going with the tattoo business? Now that is one thing I could never do. I can't stand to have something vibrating in my hand. Even the weed eater used to get to me.
bigs
Have just finished my first card ...................will have to think hard on how i will do these to make them a little different (in case you all haven't noticed by now I like to be a little off centre)

*Roxy*
I've finished one and started the second one.
