I read this on Practical Painting and thought it was interesting... wished to share with you.

One thing I like to do, no matter what I am doing.. a painting, drawing or sketch is look at my work throughout the process via a mirror. This really gives you a different perspective. We get so used to looking at our work that we almost "stop" seeing it clearly. Using the mirror and looking at the reflection is like looking at it with a different pair of eyes. You can instantly see problem areas, perspective issues or if shadows and highlights are not correct.

Anyone else have a problem with getting Log outed when you click on reply? Rose I have read that on a few sites, but it remind me of this;"Nature is the art of God "Every time I go to the mirror I see where nature messed up! sad.gif help.gif sad_an.gif wave.gif sleeping.gif Bed Time!!

Thanks for sharing that important tip Rose. Using a mirror to see your image is similar to stepping back to look at it from a distance. We are ontop of our work while we do it and sometimes don't see the errors we're making til we see it from a different perspective. Its the same reason why we see problem areas in a drawing when we put it online. Its usually because we didn't stand back 5 or 6 or 12 feet and look at our drawing in real life. I'm guilty of it too. smile.gif

Ted, I don't have that problem and am no sure why it would happen. Contact admin under the technical thread and see if they can advise you.
I know that the new drawing of your grand daughter will be beautiful, judging on how good a job you did with the little one. Don't be a stranger now, we all miss you here.

So very true Jeanette. Also I have learnt from my very brief experience that we should distance ourselves from whatever we are working on not only in space but also in time. It's amazing the things we notice the day after that we never notice while working on a piece.

Oh Ted!! why so critical of yourself! sad.gif As for the portrait you are working on... if it's anything like what I have so far seen of your work it's going to be awesome!!

I have tried the mirror thing before but must say that it always seems that I see mistakes right after I've posted on the web somewhere! I think it must be a cosmic thing to keep you from pride! lol

Ted, I agree! Don't be so self-critical! You know that your other drawings have been totally awesome & I'm sure this one will be great also!

Rose, I've been meaning to comment on your signature line - I love it! Noah was an amateur but he had divine help! lol
