It would be nice if it could be possible to rate the drawings uploaded by the members in their albums, and to classify the best drawers of the month and of the year... What do you think?
Ernest Friedman-Hill
Absolutely, positively, beyond any shadow of a doubt, this will not happen here. Drawspace is a friendly, helpful, inclusive, supportive, noncompetitive, non-judgmental learning environment.

Ernest, I would like to thank you for your reply to this posting. It is the attitude, that you expressed, that makes this such a wonderful place.

Excellent. I can scarcely think of anything more pointless or irrelevant than some sort of rating/scoring system.

I've seen problems on another site recently, where scoring of artwork became a popularity contest, with people marking up their friends, marked down people they disagreed with, and down content or media they disliked or disapproved of, irrespective of the quality of the work. Even if "quality of work" is the criterion, its still divisive and pointless. Somebody who's been an artist for 20 years shouldn't need their ego boosting (in fact retaining some humility sometimes seems to be more of an issue laugh.gif ) and beginners, or those working under disadvantaged conditions, are certainly not going to gain from being scored down in a competition.

What matters is that people enjoy their art, make progress at their own pace, and are able to look for help and support from the community.

Thank you - I agree (no politics either)

So good to hear it said!

A nice, safe place for the "budding artist" to grow, flourish, and get encouragement without being put down or discouraged for not being at someone else's skill level.

That's exactly what I've found here so far and love you all for it!

Absolutely agree with Ernest. I'm still plucking up the courage to put anything at all in the gallery and I absolutely know I wouldn't if it would be subject to judging.

If Deimos really wants feedback on their work, there's nothiing stopping them from starting a topic, attaching drawings and inviting comments on a one to one basis. That's what I plan to do when (if) I feel ready.

i agree rating aint a good thing makes people feel bad if they dont get a good rating and could put them off drawing all together.
