Full Version: F04 - Graduated Values
Drawspace forums > Drawing lesson comments > Beginner > F - Hatching
admin
Graduations are the primary ingredient in realistic shading. Hatching graduations are rendered by varying the density of lines, varying the pressure used in holding pencils, and/or using different pencils. The main goal is to keep the transition between the different values flowing into one another as smoothly as possible.

A very good lesson, I am just starting to get a little smooth vaules into my drawing. However when I came to the curvy line exercise, It just was not smooth anymore.
At the begiining of the lesson the sheet has F06 written and F04 everywhere else.

I found the curvy line exercise difficult. Not smooth at all. I did sketch the dogs ear and managed
some pretty good graduations. going to need lots of practice on this one.

Excellent lesson. This has helped me to understand hatching much more clearly. Sylvia

I had the same problem with the curve line not smooth at all.Beautiful pic of dally ,which I shall try when I get the hatching just right.

You're right. It is difficult. My curved lines were a mess.
I made curved lines separately OK. But when trying to make them together wavy with different values, they turned out really bad. I guess it will take some time.

This is a good practice. I need more practice on the wavy hair. mellow.gif

the hair was particularly tough for me. I tried different ways and it still doesn't look good. I have to practice some more.

You did good!

I've tried hard to make the shadings with hatching and it turned out ok but left me a bit insecure because Brenda's examples are to perfect.

And when I saw the drawing of the dalmation so superbely done felt even more insecure. I think I will never do anything that good. blush.gif
