There is a great section on eyes here, but what I wondered was, is there a section detailing eyes (and other features!) of the different races? I'd really like to draw people of Asian descent, but the eyes throw me.
Also, what about emotion? I have trouble showing anger, sadness, and joy. I've tried furrowing the brow, but usually end up with someone who doesn't look angry, but troubled... and teeth! Teeth are strangely hard.
Thanks for any advice!

Eyes themselves all have similar parts, but the surrounding lids and angles create different racial types. I believe that if you can render an eye - in that you know it is a sphere and you know how to shape it with light and shade, then create a different racial feature is a matter of careful observation of the surrounding lid and facial features.
What is it about Asian eyes that throws you? Can you pinpoint where you go wrong and I can try to help.
Emotion is again a matter of observing and drawing just what you see, not what you think you see. Expression is subtle in many cases and not always easy to interpret in pencil, but practice helps a lot. Find some reference images that show different expressions and practice them til you are more comfortable with it.
With teeth, less is more. As a rule, teeth are never left as a white expanse in the mouth. They have tone and the white of the paper should only be in tiny highlights on the tooth itself. Teeth further back in the mouth are in shadow. Shading should be subtle on teeth so not to make them the focal point of the drawing.

The part that really gets me is the upper lid. There is something undefinable (at least to me

) in the way the lid is shaped in almond eyes. Every time I've tried to get that certain look, it ends up looking Anime, but not in a good way lol.

Are you using a reference to go by or your imagination?

Unfortunately, just my imagination. I can't seem to find any good pictures, and since the library doesn't make good photo copies, online is out of the question...
Sorry it took so long for me to answer, with the holidays, the library has been closed...
