Hello! my name is Kat and I am inviting you to this weeks challenge smile.gif

All levels of drawing are encouraged to participate!

The goal of this thread is to enable and encourage individuals to practice their drawing skills, learn new techniques and have fun! If you just want to sketch that’s fine. If you want to create a complex, detailed drawing, that’s great too. You will get out of this what you want. The references used are from my own personal reference library of images that I have photographed and I release them here as not under copyright, meaning you can use them as you wish for drawing.

You will be challenged by some aspect of all references most likely as you all will have different strengths and weaknesses in your ability to translate the images to paper.

Reminder:

This is a DRAWING challenge. Therefore please confine your artistic endeavours to some form of drawing: graphite, coloured pencil, pen and ink or charcoal.

There is no ruling on what size your final drawing or sketch should be. Smaller, sketchbook sizes will provide a smaller file size which is easier for loading onto the thread.

If you would like assistance or advice, please ask for it and I will be more than willing to try to guide you.

This challenge will last for one week. At that time, all challenge drawings should be submitted to this thread.

I have offered 3-5 reference images to choose from. The images are also provided in greyscale. Seeing the images in black and white gives a better sense of basic values.

I have kept the images to simple shapes that still provide challenges. Block out your basic shapes first then work the details into them, rechecking proportion and measurement against other reference points in your drawing.

If you have an interest in hosting a challenge, please see the list in the pinned area of general discussions.

I do hope you enjoy the pictures as much as I enjoy seeing the results of different interpretations

Happy Drawing!
Kat

Man and child. quick. maybe 10 minutes. The first try had crazy fingerprints in the charcoal. so I did a quick overlay with a nice clean sheet and put somethin under my hand.

Conte smile.gif I can't see anything terrible about your drawing Put it away for a while and then pick it up again if you feel like completing it. It is a wonderful rough sketch as it is. Charcoal comes hard to me and I do not know why but you handle it well. Thank you for the contribution

Thank you An for your charcoal drawing smile.gif. The picture was an entertaing moment in time while I waited for the boat to come in. The mothers and fathers had the hardest time keeping the little ones from being swept away while learning to swim. Excellent for just a quick charcoal, you caught the moment perfectly

Hi Kat, I like your challenge photos and hope to do more than just this one. But for starters here is my take on the flower. I spent about 45 minutes with some watercolor pencils for this one. Thanks for looking.

Hi, Kat. Beautiful photos! There are some that I'd like to try. For the moment, I sketched very quickly the light house in ink. I tried stippling (drawing by dots) to achieve the stuco texture in the house walls, but I'm not satisfied with this technique yet sad_an.gif I don't like the results.
I have few time, so I didn't comment on everyone's drawing, but I saw many beautiful pieces. Congratulations everyone!

Hi, sorry for this last minute posting, but I wanted to try the racoon in a special technique called criss-cross hair (it is new for me). I woke up early today and draw the hair for more than one hour. Now I realize why people hate this little bastards smile.gif

Thanks for hosting Kat, and congratulations to all postings, they are all very good.

Quicky sketch of the boy on ice. GREAT pictures this week but not enough time to do anything. Would love to do the geese one. Anyways it is what it is as they say.
paulette4
Wonderful drawings!
Don't forget we always love to see more drawings come in after the time is up.
The time limit is just so fresh pictures can go up, so there is always something inspiring to find and draw, no matter what your tastes are.
katdyd
a wonderful end to a great week hosting the challenge Claudio and Nancy. wonderful drawings for you both.. Thank you for contributing your work and talent. It is always welcome smile.gif
