Cathy, those are great Giraffes!
Cheri, I am still laughing at your "iron" giraffe! That is great!
I am so glad that there is a fence there Tania! It is bad enough here when kangaroos or wallabies leap in front of the car and try and commit hari kari ! I love our wildlife but they do have these suicidal tendencies at dusk!

You have gone and made me fall in love with giraffes! They are all absolutely marvelous. Who knew giraffes could have so many looks?
I think I am ready to venture into the world of ATC on the next round (starting in January I believe?), but could someone please explain what it is all about and how to go about doing it? I understand the size of the actual cards and that you do a lot of them, but from there...? It looks like so much fun.
Thanks

It is really fun, I started last January and I joined all of them since so it's been a year. Theres someone who hosts it and they get to choose a subject then we have one week to sign up and after that the host sends us everyone's addressses and we do a card for everyone who joins so if theres 10 people in the trade you have to draw 9 cards one for everyone who joined, (the 10th person would be yourself so you don't have to draw that card) And then we have about a month to draw all our cards and send them out and voila! you just wait for them to arrive in the mail. It's really exciting

I hope I explained it well if not i'll let anyone correct me

So this was incredible! sue, i recieved your card today, It's fabulous. Thank you so much. Roxy you did a great job explaining and carol your cards look lovely. Sorry for no reply's - having problems loging in again. I don't know what the problem is at work, but i'm always thinking of you guys.

Tania I meant to tell you earlier how wonderful to see the great giants their natural habitats.. Here in Texas when I first saw camels roaming around in our Pastures, I was shocked.. That has been a long time ago.. Since then I had learned that they are a huge asset to our Cattle Ranchers.. They mix well with cattle and are natural for keeping preditors away from the herd but their main purpose I am told is because they clear the Pasture lands from Mesquite trees .. They can devour a small tree in a month which keeps them from regrowth.. Mesquites are not a desired tree unless you do a lot of Open Bar_B-Ques.. makes a good smokey taste to whatever is grilled...
Now what a dope ..I made 10 cards and only needed 9.. I think I was thinking we had one that wanted to join late ,but I guess that didn't happen.. Oh well good practice.. I'll send it on to the Giraffe guy so it can be one Giraffe closer to that million..

Carol, you can use that giraffe like an ink blot test and see which of your guests spots "it"

And I love that Serengetti Silhouette pic .........and I never realised that they had port holes on the ark

. Oh and about wild camels.........don't get too excited about them - we are having to have a cull over here in some outback areas. We have wild herds that have been in the deserts since they were used for transport in the 1800's. Unfortunately they are victims of the big dry like everyone out west, but they don't take no for an answer, they swarm into some townships at sunset and they will push down fences (just try and argue with a thirsty, angry Bull Camel!

) And get into the town's water supply and it is terrible for all. Population control is the only way, unfortunately. We do export our camels to the Middle East at times - they don't have wild populations anymore. but that alone is not enough. Just you folk watch out after they finish off the Mesquite!
Tania, I figured that most animals would be on reserves - over here we do have our natives in bushland around the place, but not in the towns and cities like too many tourists think.
Great explanation of the swaps
Roxy!

Now all you have to do
Debora is to keep an eye out for the next trade in the lists on the forums.

Well I have had a giraffe stampede in my letterbox today!
Jeanne - I wish I had long legs like 'Stretch' - I unfortunately have "duck's disease" [for those who don't know what that is - it's that your bottom is too close to the ground

]
Lily I got your vocal chappy too - great watercolour control!
Gretchen, I love your giraffe in the igloo! I just wish that I could scan it for everyone to see. Unfortunately my scanner/printer has had a kniption and refuses to work. Turns out that to repair would cost over half the cost of a new one, so I guess planned obsolescence got me! I tried to take a pic, but it didn't work out - please put up your scan - it made me laugh so hard as soon as I saw it!!

Hey guys!
I'm writing to tell you all, I have had some personal things keeping me from completing my ATCs for this swap, but rest assured I am working on them and hope to have them done and out to you all this weekend. I am sorry I am so behind on this but "life" happened in the meantime. I don't want to be banned from future swaps so please be patient with me. I will complete my obligation. Thanks to all of you for your understanding.

Jan 18 2010, 07:01 AM
Trish - don't stress about it, i think they only ban people from ATC who are 'fly by nights' and do a disappearing act!! We understand

Hope everything is ok now.
Sue - Sorry about your scanner, i'm in the same boat, that's why i'm taking photo's of everything, but that doesn't always capture the effect of the drawing.
I have received 7 cards - they are all fantastic - i am going to post them up here tomorrow i promise as well as the ones i have done. i have taken photo's of them already and they are saved on my flash - i just need to remember to bring my flash - LOL!!
I hope you have all received my cards - i heard we had a problem with our Post Office as they were on strike or something - so if you haven't received them that is why and i'm hoping they will get to you soon.
Thank again everyone for a great trade.
Hugs,
