Giraffes

Hello one, hello all...

I will be your host this evening (and for the rest of the month). My name is Tania and I'm very excited about hosting this Trade because it's my first time doing so and because Giraffes are my favorite animal.

First things first... The all important TOPIC - GIRAFFES
I know at first glance it may seem like once you've drawn a giraffe, that is it - but that is honestly not the case. There is so much variety out there.
The 'real/organic' Giraffe is flawless in all it's beauty and glory as it grazes in the gorgeous African sun, with it's fascinating coat glistening in the light and shadows of the tall trees, many times with baby at her side. (what a sight in real life!!)
The fluffy and cuddly Giraffe has become a favorite among 'teddy bears' - I myself love them to bits and have numerous fluffy giraffe toys which are so much fun to draw!!
There is the African/bushman style Giraffe which so many people have fallen in love with due to it's very definite lines and striking colours!!

There are many more which I haven't mentioned, which I am leaving completely and entirely up to you.

Another reason why I've chosen this theme is because there is a guy in Norway who needs to collect 1 000 000 Giraffes - go to this link in DS 1 000 000 Giraffes! and to the actual site here : One Million Giraffes
If we have the total amount of traders joining (20) and we at least draw one Giraffe on each card, that will be 361 Giraffes - obviously if you draw a herd of Giraffes on a card that number will increase!

I am looking forward to this trade and hope that all of you can join in!!

Here are the game rules:
- Sign-up start today (19 Nov 2009) and will be open for one week and close on the 26th of November 2009.
- The trade will then begin on the 27th of November and will end on new years eve... 31st December 2009.
- Once you have signed up, please PM me your Name and Postal Address, which I will in turn PM to all the traders after the sign up is complete.
- This is a drawing challenge where any medium is welcome - please no computer art!
- The dimensions for the cards are as follows : 2.5 x 3.5 inches or 6.35 x 8.89 cm
- Please ensure that when you post out your cards you have the address correctly written (or even easier - printed) on the front and your address on the back, if for whatever reason the card does not reach it's destination, then at least the Post Office will know where to send it back to and doesn't disappear into the great black hole!!

Well I didn't think that I could do enough giraffes Tania, but just today I have sketched out 14 cards !!! I surprised myself. So, I guess I'm in.........I just have to finish the cards now and maybe do a few more.

I have been so ill for the past 6 weeks .. seems when I try and get better it hits me again.. ..I am feeling better today .. knock on wood it will stay that way... Please count me in ... I started my first card today it's so cute, I drew a giraffe just like the keychain I have. I'll post it when i'm done and when i'm home cause i'm at my dad's house right now.

Yes it was, I just added a background to it. I'll try to take a picture of it tomorrow it doesn't look as nice as it used to be, I'll try to go buy another one if I find it again. I bought it at Walmart it came with 2 of them and I gave one to my little sister because she LOVES giraffes and I kept the other one cause I like giraffes too.

Guys, i must apologise, i can not log onto drawspace on my pc, i'm trying to get it posted out, but i'm loging in now on my mobile.

Oh, i'm so happy, whatever the problem was with my PC at work has now been fixed, so i can reply and upload pictures like normal!!!

i really hope a few more people join in.... maybe i should put something up on the challenges & cafe sections!?!?!

I'll think about it this afternoon, and see if I can commit. I do have a wooden toy Giraffe that I made once, that I need to at least photograph and send in to the 1,000,000 project.

Well, I think its because we are in the throes of the Silly Season that folk aren't joining as readily as usual. Its just another stressor during a time when peopel feel so stretched. It doesn't matter how many as long as we all have fun, hey?

I love that little cutie of yours Roxie, is he one of those pliable plastic/rubbery type key chains? I had a happy little flower one for years, then it started to shed its petals , so it died a natural death.

I have done some Giraffe stuffed toys that I had seen and one like a cave painting - 4 cards so far:

Sue, you're right, even if It's a small trade, What's important is that we all have fun. Your drawings are great and i'm sure all your ideas will come out looking amazing as they always do.

Ok, so today is the closing day. If anyone else still wants to join by friday thats ok, but i'm going to send out all the addresses in the meantime. I'm in bed right now, had a root canal done today and i'm feeling terrible. Should be right as rain tomorrow. And i'll get to the pm address part tomorrow, hope thats ok.

Sorry it took so long to put it up I had forget, good thing Sue reminded me. It's not made out of rubber not sure what kind of material it is but it's kinda soft.

Sue .. Love these.. but you know how you can look a picture and see a picture inside a picture? well you have one here that has me thinking just that .. I can't really say what it is without blushing.. Maybe I'm not the only one ?

I get what you're saying: it's about the cave painting, right? I see that too. It's because it's a drawing... of a drawing, really. It's a representation of someone else's representation... Am I close, or are you seeing something else altogether?

Carol, I thought "What is she on about?"...........then I pulled the cards out and looked at them with different eyes .............perhaps I should have made his belly another colour and you may not have gotten that image ..............I wonder if there is something Freudian in all this .

Tania.. glad that you allowed a few more days .. that seemed to help... About the posting of the giraffes.. I'll post what I have done here but I have already posted them to the Million Giraffe site.. You may want to check with those posted already if they have done the same before you post them.. ( that whole sentence was weird).. you know what I mean .. it's early and coffee hasn't kicked in yet..
Yup ... the subconscious is pretty telling isn't it.. I didn't mean to open a can of worms ( Giggle!! ) but it was funny.
I have 6 done .. will post the others later.. may change these all together and do something else.. Just foolin' around..
