Hi, my name is Paul and I am your host for this week !
I hope I have choosen at least one photo that you will be interested in and willing to attempt.
Above all I hope you have fun and enjoy working from them.

All levels of drawing are encouraged to participate!

The goal of this thread is to enable and encourage individuals to practice their drawing skills, learn new techniques and have fun! If you just want to sketch that’s fine. If you want to create a complex, detailed drawing, that’s great too. You will get out of this what you want. The references used are from my own personal reference library of images that I have photographed and I release them here as not under copyright, meaning you can use them as you wish for drawing.

You will be challenged by some aspect of all references most likely as you all will have different strengths and weaknesses in your ability to translate the images to paper.

Reminder:

This is a DRAWING challenge. Therefore please confine your artistic endeavours to some form of drawing: graphite, coloured pencil, pen and ink or charcoal.

There is no ruling on what size your final drawing or sketch should be. Smaller, sketchbook sizes will provide a smaller file size which is easier for loading onto the thread.

If you would like assistance or advice, please ask for it and I will be more than willing to try to guide you.

This challenge will last for one week. At that time, all challenge drawings should be submitted to this thread.

I have offered 3-5 reference images to choose from. The images are also provided in greyscale. Seeing the images in black and white gives a better sense of basic values.

I have kept the images to simple shapes that still provide challenges. Block out your basic shapes first then work the details into them, rechecking proportion and measurement against other reference points in your drawing.

If you have an interest in hosting a challenge, please see the list in the pinned area of general discussions.

15 minutes each on Strathmore sketch pad 9x12 in.

Thank you for the challenge.
paul444
Hi Elena, that was fast. Two great drawings. Love the fox. smile.gif
Sveta17

Thank you for the interesting pictures.

Another 'instant' fox for a start. With markers.
paul444
Lovely fox Sveta17 you have used some great colours and the subtle bit of shading on the floor really grounds him.
Well done.
HunterGreen
well, I liked the Leonidas, but my imagination kept "roman", haha (i know, i know, he was greek,
but that's just not punny...heh heh)

Please forgive me, I took the artistic license, and i know, his anatomy is
grossly disproportionate. I am still and forever practicing....
If this is too far a stretch, let me know and I'll unpost..

with humble apologies

- HG

paul444
No problem, It inspired you to do this drawing so it did what it was supposed to do.
Great drawing.
HunterGreen
Thanks Paul444!

Here is my contribution to this week's challenge. This was a very very quick drawing of the musicians. I just colored in with water colors and then erased the pencil marks. It gave it a different effect. I wanted to share.
oliverandjazz
Very artistic rendition. wink.gif I have given this one a shot as well..i had to squish them a bit to get them all on the paper but here they are..

A lovely pen drawing, and a good challenge, every mark you make stays in the picture, no erasing.

Well done. smile.gif

Thanks to Paul444! The tulipe is a good subject for pastel. Quick draw. I should give more care to the lines, using pastel pencils !

An your floral pastels are always the most beautiful..unbelievable how good you are with those..and this tulip is simple stunning

I can't do as well as An, but I chose the tulip too - in black and white though. I couldn't resist all those flowing lines and gorgeous shadows. I haven't had time to do it justice - want to really get the shading right - so this is more a work in progress. More to come!

I started out using the Inktense pencils on the Musicians and didn't like the way it was going so I finished up with Watercolor.. The Same with the Boats ..

Finally finished the tulip. I'm not very happy with the completed piece, but goofing around more with it won't help either. Paul, thanks for the interesting pictures this week, they have generated a lot of participation!
