It's my best friend, colleen. Not necessarily from a reference pic, but she sat still so I could draw her. Probably my best sketch yet. Critique? I really need it happy.gif

Staciarain,

This is a wonderful portrait from life...there are only a few things that jump out at me....her mouth seems to be a wee bit small...no reference for this so I can't say for sure...because it looks so small the space between her nose and her mouth looks to wide. Also if you check her ear... it looks to be to low...the general rule for the ear is from the eye to the bottom of the nose. The only other things I would say are to go darker and a wider range of values. This is a wonderful portrait. I can tell you put alot of time into the eyes they are wonderful! Can't wait to see what you do next!

You're right for the most part - our scanners.... eh, so it scans lighter than it really is. You're also right about the ear - I drew it like that because she had her head tilted downwards a little when I drew her ear but normal for the rest. I'll be sure to fix that smile.gif

The mouth - She really does have a small mouth, and her lips were a little pursed at the time, but I did make it a little smaller. I don't have a picture of her in that pose, but the picture of her is attatched (she's younger in the pic).

Thank you!!!!!

I agree with Laura's points Staciarain. You've done a fabulous job on the eyes, very realistic.

I believe that part of the problem is that you have a 3/4 view and you are rendering some sections as front on views. The head for instance is a bit skewed, It should be rounder I think. The mouth is facing front whereas it should be a 3/4 view so wider. Also the distance from the bottom of the nose to the top lip seems too far.

Recheck your measurements and drop lines on it as checkpoints to ensure that your proportions are correct.

I agree .. the first thing I saw were the detail and glassiness of the eyes .. then the rest seems sketched to me ...smile.gif

You guys are right - the way I drew her hair may have made her head look skewed, if thats what you're talking about. The lip is currently being fixed biggrin.gif

Surprisingly, I spent the least time on the eyes. I've been practicing eyes for a while smile.gif
