In this lesson, you use contour hatching to depict the illusion of depth, by transforming a circular shape into a three-dimensional form.

Fantastic lesson.

I have a question about hatching and cross hatching.....................I am self taught with the exception of some high school art classes. I have always just used a blending stump or tortillion instead of hatching and cross hatching. I was always aware of it but just found it easier my way. Is there a purpose for shading in this manner? or is it because the old masters did it this way?

I am teaching basic drawing lessons for the Senior Citizens Center and I will be teaching them how to hatch and cross hatch though. I guess it would only be right not to impose my methods onto the students. LOL What's your opinion?

I liked this one. It looks better than my avacado.

I found this lesson quite interesting, good and hard. This hatching with stripes is difficult to me, but I guess a little practice makes perfect.
Here is my version of it blush.gif

When I first saw the drawing, I thought I could never do it. Turned out, it's so easy. Thanks Brenda!

I did good with this exercise. This is good practice in contour hatching with curved lines. rolleyes.gif

This was a good lesson. My shape looks three dimensional and nice. However, the camera I took it with didn't do justice; it's like the middle lines are too light. I even tried to darken them in Gimp. Here it is.

yap!!
enjoyed this one too.. laugh.gif

I think drawing and hatching such simple shapes like this is a very useful exercise. Seems easy, but trying to make shading look perfect and smooth, and lines even takes some time and needs practice. Thanks!
