Hello..this is just an idea i have come up with and was wondering if anyone would be interested..WE ARE NOT TALKING p o r n HERE..

I was thinking an adult themed trade..(I have this thing for figure drawing) Nothing nasty..but perhaps topless, etc...

Moderators would something like that be ok?
Members would anyone be interested?

here is a sample of what i am proposing..something along these lines

I was thinking ladies of the month would be fun wink.gif

If I didn't already sign up for the cats trade, I'd say absolutely! There's no shortage of references out there for figure drawing, and I'm certain it would be a welcome change for the men of Drawspace... rolleyes.gif Great idea Kay.
oliverandjazz
Thanks Mindi..i was thinking of course there would be rules..

no genitalia, no sex, no hardcore..etc

keep it sexy but clean, know what i mean..i think it would be lots of fun..and i could host this adult one in tandem with the regular usual monthly trade and if it goes we could start it next month..in march and run the trades together
oliverandjazz
i was thinking
march could be st paddys day ladies
April could be easter ladies
Theme them out that way

Kay,

I love this idea !! I have a soft spot for tasteful life drawing. I have done nudes in previous swaps on another site and let people know - those that didn't want one just PM'ed me to let me know. It can be hard to do them small though.

Below are the type that I think are tasteful and the first one is 20" x 24" and the rest are small (and as you can see from the watercolour one .....don't forget a bit of Beefcake!). I hope that this trade gets off the ground and everyone has some agreement on the type of art we find tasteful - that's why I have included a few so that we can have discussion on as many images as we can so that we can get a consensus.

Thanks Kay for starting this debate and hopefully a swap!

Sue..those are absolutely gorgeous and EXACTLY what i am talking about...Thats great! i have two ladies at least interested so far..and no moderators have come by to burst our little bubble yet..so lets see if some more interest is generated and if so i shall host beginning next month
paulette4
I personally don't see a problem with it. So long as guide lines are given before hand.
bigs
Great Paulette!

Now Kay just has to nut out how to word the swap instructions! Glad its you Kay, who has to avoid the double entendre in the swap preamble ! laugh.gif

Thanks Paulette,
lol..i love the idea myself..if we can get at least 5 or 6 ppl to show an interest we can start it next month. and begin this trade with a themed trade
Ladies/Gents St. Pattys day or something along those lines.

We'll see how it goes

Good morning Kay and ladies,

Kay, it is an excelent idea and I am tempted to be part of the trade. However, I normally do not draw human figures, so I am not sure if my cards would be good enough. I will try to do some sketches and studies during this month, and confirm if I dare to participate by the end of february. Perhaps, between my crazy cats cards and the studies of human figures, I will end up finding a new species smile.gif
Regards,
Claudio
oliverandjazz
Claudio, I am sure your figure work is fine, but I do understand..give it a try on a few cards, it is a challenge, but remember it is artwork and nothing needs to be PERFECT..we are always looking for perfection arent we? wink.gif

also keep in mind, it doesnt have to be a whole figure, it can be a sexy leg with a stocking or perhaps a hand holding a piece of lingerie..just for some examples..I am hoping we can generate interest with at least 4 or 5 ppl to begin the trade next month..If I cant generate enough interest then perhaps I can arrange a private trade with someone

kim1963
I have only one fear of this ...as of the last month I have been deleting images from the gallery ....some of dead childeren and others of women and mens well you know ....and they were not of a art form ....so as I would also be intersted in joining this trade please outline the rules carefully .. you do a great job as it is so I am sure you will have no problem getting your point across smile.gif I just fear lurers will see and think all is fine to go all the way .. so caution please .
oliverandjazz
OMG Kim..I did not see those..I am glad that you have gotten rid of that too..Yes there will be rules

NO Genitalia,
NO Sexual Acts,

bare breast ok,
bare Bums ok..

Hopefully those that join will understand that we want TASTEFUL art, not P O R N O..which there is a huge difference..

Those that join and break the rules do so at the risk of their membership to this wonderful site and shall be HUNTED DOWN BY A MODERATOR AND DEALT WITH HARSHLY.. happy.gif

If you can think of anything to add please do and if you join you can also be there with a swift boot for those needing it wink.gif

It seems ppl respect the rules of drawspace, and the other members, so hopefully it wont be problematic.

Thanks to the mods for allowing me to give it a try

khinchowin888
I like your idea even i never draw figure but i always admire these drawings. May be I will join the trade. At the moment my mother in law got knee replacement operation and she stays with me for a while. May be end of February is OK. Not sure.
lily
oliverandjazz
great..i think then that we will go ahead and in March and give it a try..I hope to see you there Lily and give momma a hug wink.gif and tell her to feel better soon
katdyd
sounds interesting ..
bigs
Claudio, Lily and anyone else who is doubting themselves,

Please don't be scared off - each of the pieces I did took ages to do.............the ones that are ATC size were for swaps that were 6 months long!!

For these swaps I was thinking of using some of the cards to do gestural sketches, and I have also been thinking of Da Vinci (not that I am comparing laugh.gif ) but he did pages and pages of studies of hands and feet and profiles etc etc etc..........there is no reason that we can't do as Kay suggested and make a leg look sexy and stick it in fishnets!

Ifanyone want subjects to work from then there is the posemania site.

Personally I used to buy Black and White which is a photography mag here in Oz, but most of the models are women so I got strange looks when I used to buy a gay magazine that used to have wonderfully artistic photos of nude men ohmy.gif ...........I had to eventually to show them some pieces of art so they knew I wasn't a weirdo!!! rolleyes.gif laugh.gif

But to avoid the odd looks (and snide comments from the teenage shop asistants) I bought 2 wonderful books "The Figure in Motion" by Easley & Smith and "The Nude Figure" by Mark Edward Smith. Both these books have wonderful poses that you would find in most life classes, in case you can't get to one, and the shots of moving figures are so helpful. These are designed to be used for artists so licence shouldn't be a problem.

Oh, and don't forget the newspaper and women's mags that have all those scantilly clad women in underwear ads and promotions for beauty parlours and skin treatments - they often have some wonderfully sexy but completely modest poses that you could adapt for your own purposes (remember just use them for an idea as they will be copyrighted).

Hope that gives you all some ideas to find subjects and hey.....if you don't start now you may never try a figure. These swaps have gotten me to try so many subjects I was too afraid to try before!

Hope to see you all After Dark
oliverandjazz
yes Well said Sue..we all start somewhere..and i have both of those books as well..and they are very good..course i use my hubbys playboys too ..(he just reads the articles) tongue.gif
rsine
I'm interested in adding some of my art but I have no clue as to how these trades work.
oliverandjazz
Well Rsine..first we give a week for everyone to sign up..then we have the number of art cards we each need to make..each card must be 2.5 x3.5 inches (baseball trading card size) and hand done..no computer art..any medium you choose on any paper you choose..the theme will be st patricks day I am thinking at the moment. then you pm me your mailing address and i compose a list and send the mailing list to all the others who joined..we have a month to make the number of cards (depends on how many join) and get them out by the deadline..

it is loads of fun, and very addicting

I hope you decide to join us..it wont begin till march
khinchowin888
Sue.. Thanks for encourage me to try this trade and web site. Did you buy these two books on line or in the bookshop? I never buy book on line and I noticed that sometime the cost of shipping fee is more than the cost of book.May be they are delivered from overseas. I do not have many art books, normally I borrow from library and sometime you cannot get what you want. Anyway I will try to practice now and hope i am ready on March.

Lily..I dont know if it is available to you there in australia or not but try Alibri books online..omg..they have the best deals on art books..check em out
bigs
Lily,

the two online bookshops that I use here in Australia are booktopia.com.au and fishpond.com.au. Both of these will post free if you buy over a certain amt (its easy to do!!) and I can get anything I want between these two. Sometimes they have to wait & get it from overseas but they keep you in the loop by sending emails periodically to let you know how the order is going.

I have been able to get almost anything I want through these two. But I usually like to flip through a book to see if its really what I want. So to do that I go to Amazon, com , and most books there have an option to look through the bok.........they have certain pages plus the front and back cover and table of contents that you can see.........I haven't been disappointed yet after I have looked this way then ordered from one of the Aussie sites (they deliver much quicker in AUstralia, than Amazon can).

Hope this helps and that I don't get you hooked on online bookshops......he he he!
khinchowin888
Thank for the information both Kay and Sue.

Kay, I drew this quick sketch in an academic course, with real professional models. Here there is no problem. But is such a drawing in the line of your ideas, or ? (I will feel no hurt if this draft is dropped by the masters)

I think a figure drawing ATC that's PG13 is a great idea ! I agree that having clear guidelines is essential. But seeing people's comments and suggestions here, I don't think there's gonna be an issue. I'll be sure to register when this ATC comes up !

This is a great idea Kay, and if I am able, I will be joining this one. I miss the card trades. As you know life came at me fast and I forgot to duck. rolleyes.gif I'm still in therapy for the accident last July. I am on the computer a little more now and would really like to get back to drawing. When I moved last month, I had people help. I found the easel but nothing else yet. huh.gif Gee, it's great to have helpful, well meaning friends. Ha Ha Ha

Colour me interested as well please. Unless the numbers required get's really big. This sounds like a fun challenge.

Hey Kay, I'm in. I'll look for the main posting.
oliverandjazz
thats great..It looks like this one will be a nice trade too. As I have said I am still going to host the regular one too because not everyone will be interested in this one.so everyone is welcome to join either one. (music/music inst) or even both happy.gif
kim1963
I would think if one has no gallery ....no number of post ..then entering a card trade may not be a good idea ..I can not stress to you all the importance of finishing what you promise to do and by entering a card trade .....myself i enjoy them very much but get a bit worried when I see people who have no gallery or no posts .....I do not mean for this to upset anyone ..please the best thing you can do is be active ...join in on the forums ect.
people pay postage for each card ..some of these cards come from very far away .
oliverandjazz
perhaps we should come up with some sort of criteria for joining such as they need to be an active member for a while say like at least 2 months, would it be ok for me to write something like that in the opening? i agree we should have only active members in the trades, it would help ensure the trades go fairly and smoothly..

Kim if it is ok for me to state something like that when i start the new trade ? perhaps you can help me come up with some appropriate wording?

Yes, Kay, that's absolutely OK. It would even be OK to just say that joining a trade is subject to approval by the organizer, and leave it at that.
oliverandjazz
Thats Great..Thanks Ernest
kim1963
I think Ernest is right ...with just the "joining a trade is subject to approval by the organizer " will be fine . then when someome joins and you see no posts from them and no gallery ..... let them know in PM that they must have to be active ...or word it into your intro ...like I am inviting all active members and guest to join this trade ...then end it with "joining a trade is subject to approval by the organizer " ...that should work .
oliverandjazz
it is done then..we shall have new criteria such as that for all future trades, Active members with at least a month of post in gallery or forums..(think a month is long enough?) perhaps we should up it to even 2 or 3. ??

My question is...define "Active" ?

How many posts, or how big of a gallery does one require to be considered active ?

I'll speak for myself only, but I have had periods of inactivity here on drawspace, and then I come back, and a challenge catches my eye, or my real life workload drops a bit and I have time for some drawspace activity. Does this indicate that I am unaware of the concept of completing a project, or working within a deadline ?

I'll be straight, I found the tone of Kim's post on this topic a bit condescending. I know at least one member here who had not even posted in months, and has 0 drawings in a gallery, but spent hours already working on some "after midnight" cards. I certainly hope this individual is not excluded, or found begging to be included.
oliverandjazz
Hi Jazz, I understand the concern, but you have been a member here since 06 so you would not be excluded anyone that has a membership here for at least a month or two I dont think would be excluded either, but there are times when ppl join the trades who are new to the community and they dont follow through. (it has personally never happened to me) so we are trying to come up with a way to ensure the trades go smoothly..

I think I shall start the new trades something like was suggested:

I invite all active members (those holding a membership for at least 30 days ) to join in.

something to that effect..

Mindy__
I think the point is simply to try to protect the participants of these trades from getting ripped off. I can understand Kim's point of view, as she's been in trades where she works very hard to create beautiful art, then pay the postage to put it into the hands of a stranger, only to find that they didn't hold up their end of the deal. I can imagine this would be a bit insulting & hurtful, but luckily all of the trades I've been involved in has been completely fair and rewarding.
I was afraid when the question of "active members" was brought up, it would cause controversy. I don't believe it will be a big deal, just a side precaution. Knowing Kay, she'd go to great measures before excluding anyone, and hopefully it will never need to happen at all. wink.gif

Kay, I also think the minimum of 30 days active is a good idea, let them get settled in and understand the process a bit first. cool.gif
oliverandjazz
certainly mindy, and i think those that are serious about their ATC's and drawing in general will certainly understand the point wink.gif
paulette4
All good points.
Just remember that the trades are sometimes what brings people out of lurkdom and also in from other sites.
kim1963
First I will say this ....Jazz I am sorry if what I said you took as me being condescending not my intent at all .....but I along with others have drawn 17 trading cards with hopes to recieve the same amount ...I personaly have been in the trades when they were first started and I have had a few cards missing...so I only caution that this be made a concern ..because .

Active meaning ...they have made a number of post or have a few images in their gallery .

Paulette brings up a good point ...this does draw people in from other forums ..so maybe just check the people who say " ADD ME !!" and see if they are Active ....if they have no post or even if they have a couple of post ..read them and make your call ...Kay I trust your judgment you have done a fine job ....This is a really fun thread and people do love to do the cards ....but I did drop from the trades due to not getting cards in return ..I just want it to be fair ...if too many people get jipped a card or two they will go elsewhere for the trade .
bigs
Unfortunately Kim has been "once bitten" and is being "twice shy"...........I had the same on another site, and even though I still do trades on the that site, I check them out first.

I must say that I have only had one trade on DS where I didn't get all the cards. Since that trade I have always received the promised cards, although sometimes a few are a little late, they still arrive here, Downunder.

I think that we have a good crew on this site and on a number of trades Kim has mentioned that if people are going to commit they must be willing to follow through. I think that she tries to be emphatic and unfortunately when we write things they can so easily be misunderstood.

Personally I will be looking forward to being in a swap with you all.
kim1963
Yes I was only trying to bring it to the attention of the people in the swap because I have had it happen a couple of times and they were here on drawspace ...the people were new and took on more then they could put out ...its that behaviour that ruines it for everyone ...I have never done a trade other then here on drawspace .
Jazzmanian
Thanks for the clarification. I did not post to raise contention, only to clarify terms.

"Active" is a term that allows for interpretation, so I was looking for additional definition.

Kim - I apologize if I took your words in the wrong inflection. Typing .vs. face to face always leaves room for this type of thing.
