HI -

I came across this website the other day and I think it's great. I have been wanting to take some drawing lessons but my schedule is very full. I think this website will help me learn to draw.

I am currently in a computer graphics program and find that I struggle a lot when it comes to drawing out my ideas on the computer because I lack drawing skills. I would like to strengthen that side of my creativity and be able to draw out what I am thinking prior to starting a project instead of drawing on the computer first with no clue where I am heading.

I often take such a long time completing my projects due to the fact that I can't draw the idea in my head or have no sketch to go from and this fustrates me and also takes up soooo much of my time. Please feel free to give me any pointers on this time management/organization/drawing problem if you would like.

Again, I'm looking forward to starting the lessons and exploring this website more.

Thanks,
~ Cammy

smile.gif Hi Cammy!! Welcome to Drawspace! my suggestion would be to start out with the basics of the beginner lessons and work your way up. I took Graphic Designing in High School through a vocational school and know for a fact that drawing and graphic designing go hand in hand. We covered all different aspects of Graphic Designing and where there were computers involved in our overall class it was more of the Desktop Publishing aspect rather than drawing. We did however have to do alot of advertising projects where we had to draw and make advertisements for different made up companies and such. But anyways to make a long story short I recommend you learn drawing to the best of your ability because with Graphic Designing you never know when you are going to need it. This site is a wonderful place to begin and everyone here is awesome when it comes to helping each other. The best place for advice is going to General Discussions and either starting a new thread on area you need help with ot looking for past threads and replying. Everyone here is here to learn and help each other. Hope I helped!!! wub.gif

Cammy, welcome to Drawspace. I think you'll find a lot of information here that will help you.

Computers are fine for creating graphics but nothing beats the traditional paper and pencil to get the feel of how to do it first. Also drawing 'out of your head' is VERY difficult to do and I don't know of any people who do so. Most people have references to go by or draw from life. Our memories for detail usually are not good enough to render realism. Yes, we can get the basics down out of memory but most artists use some form of reference to go by.

Practice drawing as much as you can, ask questions, try new techniques. You'll get there!

Hi Cammy and welcome,
This site is truly great.
As for computer, stop using it for graphics, you'll damage your eyes watching the monitor biggrin.gif and your sense of reality due to "undo" possibilities biggrin.gif. They're both needed for drawing.
Just kidding.
Welcome again,
