All levels of drawing are encouraged to participate!

The goal of this thread is to enable and encourage individuals to practice their drawing skills, learn new techniques and have fun! If you just want to sketch that?€™s fine. If you want to create a complex, detailed drawing, that?€™s great too. You will get out of this what you want. The references used are from my own personal reference library of images that I have photographed and I release them here as not under copyright, meaning you can use them as you wish for drawing.

You will be challenged by some aspect of all references most likely as you all will have different strengths and weaknesses in your ability to translate the images to paper.

Reminder:

This is a DRAWING challenge. Therefore please confine your artistic endeavours to some form of drawing: graphite, coloured pencil, pen and ink or charcoal.

There is no ruling on what size your final drawing or sketch should be. Smaller, sketchbook sizes will provide a smaller file size which is easier for loading onto the thread.

If you would like assistance or advice, please ask for it and I will be more than willing to try to guide you.

This challenge will last for one week. At that time, all challenge drawings should be submitted to this thread.

Hi Bobby .. Well I know this is a challenge and the Flowers ??? Oh My ... I will try and muster up the strength to tackle at least one of them .. I really need to put on my big girl britches and do them til I am comfortable and not Stressed..
So the only thing I am comfortable with for now is your Portrait.. I know this is a drawing deal and don't want to do anything to upset the apple cart .. but I love watercolors and had to do that too..
The drawn one is just a # 2 pencil,, I left my bag of Drawing pencils at work..I would like to redo the hair one day soon... the back ground is Liquid Graphite ,
One request is,, I love the old home in the woods but I can barely see it.. do you have a larger one ?.
Thanks ..
JacquiP
Texaslady, wow 2 versions. They are both great. Love the pencil work and you are awesome at the watercolour. Great expression in both of them, with great job on the teeth and hair which I think are really hard to do.

With great pleasure. If anyone else would like to have a larger file please don't hesitate to ask. I suspected that I shrunk them too small.

I think you are probably right on the mouth and teeth .. they are pretty scary to do.. I want to redo the pencil one and maybe a softer watercolor of the girls face.. I did the whole thing too fast and as Steve says not to do.. I fiddled too much.. over corrected too much .. now that I see the problems I think the next attempt will be not be so fiddled .. rolleyes.gif

Bobby that shack lots so different in the larger image. I have just about finished my drawing of it from the original one posted and things look very different. I'll scan my drawing tomorrow and post anyway. I thought the wagon wheel was a wicker chair... smile.gif oh well. All part of artistic license I guess.

smile.gif Here as = too late, the update smile.gif

... but that's OK - I dabbled in watercolors for 40 years = the first time that I returned with water-based paint (or so it also-I post it later)
texaslady-59
Bobby I was so anxious to draw the old home.. And I agree what a great difference in the detail with the larger photo.. I have been having fun all morning.. This drawing I am showing is a bit larger than it shows but my scanner is small.. so the main part I am showing..
Thanks for the challenge here.. Loved it..

Actually it's probably as much about me as the house. It looked deserted and I could relate to being deserted. biggrin.gif

Awwww how could you ever be deserted .. you have such a sweet heart.. You know I saw the name Dan on the house and wondered if it had a story behind the name .. I suppose we can just make up a story to go with that name ..

I have no idea who lived in the house. I was driving down a country road nearly thirty miles from my home and saw it. I vaguely remember seeing it many many years ago. Most houses like this are soon falling down or torn down.

So sad sad.gif .. I bet at one time that house was a beautiful home with a great big family as close as the Waltons !!!

Okay here is my attempt at those daisies... Oh I was beginning to really get in to this flower thing and then it all went BAD.. I used Frisket on the petals and got the background all done and the inside of the flower.. It looked so good .. then I went to take the Frisket off and the paper started tearing .. I couldn't stop it .. the more I peeled the more came off.. Well ...

I Tried !!
JacquiP
Texaslady this is really bright and fresh, just like a bunch of daisies smile.gif Can't see the tearing or any damage at all.

I tried the portrait with graphites on cartridge paper. Measures about 8 x 8 ins. Not too happy with the hair!

You have done a great job with this portrait. Great eyes and mouth, got the expression really well. Very good shading. The hair looks pretty good to me. smile.gif

Jacqui.. wasn't that ole' house fun to do ? I really enjoy your drawing.. When I first looked at your drawing, I felt like the wind was blowing and the trees were bending.. funny how we see things differently.. perhaps my imagination gets a little carried away.. rolleyes.gif
Norma I don't think the hair looks so bad .. as a matter of fact it compliments her very well. ..not knowing the subject and by just looking at the reference I would say you have a very good likeness... I want to do this one one more time.. I have a vision of a softer portrait.. now initiating it is a whole nuther story..
Raidor !!!! excellent watercolor...and flowers !!! this is the one reference I promise I will not do... I looked it over and just by the twists and turns of those petals I would go insane !! some here can visualize how they all come together and I am so impressed.. War7vian ..oh my goodness ,, perfect.. Looks easy when you see others but my mind goes blank whenever I attempt it..
Those daisies really do have a big torn spot right in the middle flower guess the lighting from the scanner blended it in .. It is truly awful.. but I did think for a while I had painted a pretty good painting.. I was almost proud of me.. tongue.gif
