I decided to challenge myself this week by trying to draw this pretty woman without using a grid, this is my first rough sketch very lightly drawn. Criticism is welcome. I'll post the next step later tonight.

Great starting sketch. Looks like you have everything in place. She is well recognisable already. Good luck proceeding. Can't wait to see the next stage.

Thanks Jacqui.
Thought I'd start with the trickiest part, the mouth. The teeth still aren't perfect, but I'll adjust it more in a later stage. This is about 2 hours work so far.

No pencil, just pen. When I draw with pen I just use the pen. Over the last couple of months I have been making an effort to do some drawing with pen. It is really scary knowing you can't just reach for an eraser but it is also helping my confidence, I think. Give it a go on a few rough sketches. I have found it addictive.
Jacqui
Sue (bigs) told me about an artist named Claudia Nice.. she does watercolor and pen so life like .. I looked her up online and her Art is amazing !! Anyway she has several books out .. Sue recommended a few to me.. I ordered 3 of her books .. they should be coming in soon and I am so anxious to practice some of her techniques.. The pen part is what I am interested in .. coupled with watercolor I will be in heaven.. Look her up and I promise if you have never seen her work you will love it..
So brave of you to do pen without an outline .. There are few on Drawspace that do it that way as well... I will have to become addicted too.. Confidence in flowers would be nice .. Ha !

Yes Claudia Nice is great. I have seen her work. My local library has one of her books on doing animals in pen and watercolour. I have it on reserve just waiting to come back so I can work through it. Hopefully soon. There is a couple of others that I'd love to get when finances allow. Which ones have you ordered? I love watercolour too, so yes pen and watercolour together - heaven

I was working on another portrait but when I saw Bobby had posted a portrait I thought I would give it a try. I used the Derwant Drawing pencils for the sepia look but have overfiddled with it even taking up the paper in a few places. Anyways it is what it is a learning experience .

Hello Bobby,
Thank you for your photographs for the chalenge. Here is my drawing.
Click to view attachmentI hope it showed up as a thumbnail becouse I coudn't find any instructions how to upload it that way.
My goal was colorpencil. I find it much harder than black pensil becouse the points are not so sharp as I would like them to be.
Then I didn't had mutch time this weak so that made it extra exciting iff I would make it or not.
Over here its 23.52 now so if I'm fast I did made it. Hooray.
Until the next time,
Kindest regards

Well, if it's a workshop in WC someone else would have to be the teacher. I did a self portrait in acrylic and I looked like a lobster.

I'm sure I'd get the same results in WC.

Bobby, last year you did a portrait for me of my two boys, and it inspired me to draw portraits more beautiful than I ever imagined I'd be able to. Thank you. This is my best efforts of present time, maybe a few hundred portraits down the road I'll be capable of what you do.
Keep in mind, no grid was used, so it's not perfect. I recognize the faults and always strive to do better next time.
