Thanks to Raidor, Carol, JacquiP
I really wish to draw the portrait of the lady. Fascinating (and challenging).
But may be this WE only.

Hi Bobby .. Well I know this is a challenge and the Flowers ??? Oh My ... I will try and muster up the strength to tackle at least one of them .. I really need to put on my big girl britches and do them til I am comfortable and not Stressed..
So the only thing I am comfortable with for now is your Portrait.. I know this is a drawing deal and don't want to do anything to upset the apple cart .. but I love watercolors and had to do that too..
The drawn one is just a # 2 pencil,, I left my bag of Drawing pencils at work..I would like to redo the hair one day soon... the back ground is Liquid Graphite ,
One request is,, I love the old home in the woods but I can barely see it.. do you have a larger one ?.
Thanks ..

Amazing work Carol! smile.gif

Bobby I was so anxious to draw the old home.. And I agree what a great difference in the detail with the larger photo.. I have been having fun all morning.. This drawing I am showing is a bit larger than it shows but my scanner is small.. so the main part I am showing..
Thanks for the challenge here.. Loved it..

Beautiful drawing Carol!! So much detail.. you're good smile.gif

So sad sad.gif .. I bet at one time that house was a beautiful home with a great big family as close as the Waltons !!!

Okay here is my attempt at those daisies... Oh I was beginning to really get in to this flower thing and then it all went BAD.. I used Frisket on the petals and got the background all done and the inside of the flower.. It looked so good .. then I went to take the Frisket off and the paper started tearing .. I couldn't stop it .. the more I peeled the more came off.. Well ...

I Tried !!

I have no idea why you're upset with these flowers because they look perfect to me. Very very good work smile.gif

Here is a test on the portrait. Ink. Just to see the proportion. I'll be back.
She (the drawing) looks happy, but I AM unhappy, because she (the drawing) is not her (the photo). The teeth (error), the teeeeeth! Impossible to draw this picture. Must wait for Bobby.

I don't really like criticizing other peoples' work, but of you hadn't made the lips so dark, the teeth would not have stood out so much.

You are absolutely right. This was to have an idea.
Second assay :
Fig1 (right): The elements are there. Looked for light and shadows. I drew often quickly with ink pen, therefore the lines are too hard. Too small teeth, nose must be bigger.
Fig2 (left): May be a little better. Nose and teeth still too small. Abandon. Cannot draw small portrait with pencil. No hope !
However, I learned a lot. Can do better if have more time (some hours).
This was fun and pleasure !

An I suppose that we all have the desire and it is a strong one for me to learn .. patience is the hardest lesson .. I know how badly I want to do flowers and the daisies honestly started out well.. even I was impressed with me.. But dog gone it.. I still had to throw a monkey wrench in and rip the paper.. I hope you don't give up on portraiture.. If you won't then I won't give up on flowers ..okay ? okay..
the mouth is triple hard .. not only lips and teeth but the gums are showing as well.. outlines on the mouth should be light but darker than the gums.. only the corners of the mouth should have a darker value.. try not looking at it as a mouth but as lights and dark's.. maybe that will help.. there are so many tutorials out there on drawing eyes noses and mouths..that could help as well.. Onward and upward.. we can do it !! wink.gif

Portraiture in watercolor is probably one of the hardest to do.. I am very impressed ..no,,more than impressed at your attempt Raidor.. you have to work quickly with watercolor and once that area is applied you have to let it dry before moving on or one bleeds in to another.. I use a hairdryer to dry the areas I want to work with.. also kleenex to dab up any extra blobs of unwanted water or paint..
I thought I would never be able to control the color and the amount of water to use and still at times have trouble.. Like my watercolor attempt needs to be done again only softer..and not so many washes.. I promise once you get comfortable and learn how to repair then you will love it.. Keep going Raidor .. you are catching on fast !!

Thank you, thank you, Carol, I'll continue. Yes, I must proceed slowly, as in the atelier, but there, we drew a portrait for 3 hours!
Now, to relax, here is a daisies-like composition for fun (background in charcoal, petales drawn with an eraser)
JacquiP
NVA the daisies have come out so well. Love the effect of the charcoal.

I had a play with the daisies in watercolour. I did them in negative painting but then overworked the background. Not too happy with the end result, but I gave it a try.

Today I decided to get really adventurous and try the portrait in graphite. I am not good at portraits and was scared of those teeth and that smile. Here's how I did.

Good,, we have a pact now.. Patience and taking our time .. You know I had never thought about doing the flowers this way.. Looks like fun.. and the results are beautiful.. I will have to try it out..I bet it would also have good results on a scratch board painting .. I have never done one of those either but I have a friend who does.. Often I said I would ,,but procrastinate.. huh.gif Thanks An..

You know Bobby has such a wonderful touch with graphite,,, I bet he could offer you a wealth of information..my observations are not as professional but here is what I do know ...you did the mouth really well.. The lighter gum area and the slightly darker lips ...Try and lighten the nose area across the bridge and have the nostrils the darkest .. no harsh lines.. under the eys perhaps take the lines away .. those tend to age her.. rather light smooth shading.. a soft kleenex could smooth some of those out..or lift them with a kneaded eraser.. try it on a sample paper .. over time try squirkleling .. there are some lessons here on Drawspace in that technique.. I am not near the portrait master as Bobby but maybe if I haven't confused the issue this will help.?
Jacqui the flowers ? what can I say .. Lovely !!!,,I will have to throw the Frisket away and work those petals Bravely ..
mumwond
I tried the lilies with my Inktense pencils, but got completely lost with the leaves. About 8 x 10 ins on cartridge paper.

I decided to challenge myself this week by trying to draw this pretty woman without using a grid, this is my first rough sketch very lightly drawn. Criticism is welcome. I'll post the next step later tonight. wink.gif

No pencil, just pen. When I draw with pen I just use the pen. Over the last couple of months I have been making an effort to do some drawing with pen. It is really scary knowing you can't just reach for an eraser but it is also helping my confidence, I think. Give it a go on a few rough sketches. I have found it addictive. smile.gif

You got the hair and eyes really good. Skin tone on the neck is great. Think you overworked the face. Easy to do. At least you gave it a good go. Well done. Don't give up, just keep trying. You did pick the hardest thing to do with a portrait smile.gif
