I am your typical, "used to do art in school, was pretty good, then forgot all about it for twenty *gulp* years" mother of two and wife of an Army lifer.

I am a writer by trade and a mom by night, day, and all times in between. I have been playing with some painting and picked up all kinds of media so I could start this whole art thing off with an expensive bang, of course. Now I am slowing down and trying to relearn this thing called art. I found this place today and like everything else have jumped in with both feet and a hope that I can tread the waves. I am going to go through all the lessons and hopefully in a few months will have something I can post that won't scare people into turning their computers off.

Anyway, I just wanted to say 'hi' and my only question is..."Where do you buy your supplies?"...if that is okay.

Hi Milkquasy,

Welcome at draw space. Don't be scared to post any drawings, there is an artist in each one of us. It's just waiting to come out.
I bet its not so bad as you think it is.

You ask about were to get your supplies. I guess that depends on where you are.
I'm traveling around trough the Netherlands and Belgium so have to search for suppliers often.
This week I got some cheap paper from a second hand shop. I also get special paper I like to draw on in an office book shop in Groningen which is in the top of Holland.
If I need something special I go to a shop specialized in art materials but there expensive so I do that only in emergency's or when I know there is not much chance I will find what I need somewhere else. The addresses I find in the telephone book and since short also on the Internet.
I keep a list from addresses if I find interesting addresses on the Internet during search party's for other information. For the rest I keep looking around everywhere during my journeys and buy what I think could be handy some day. That way I collect myself a nice private shop together where I mostly can find what I need.

Enjoy your time here and creative regards smile.gif

smile.gif Welcome to Drawspace. I would suggest you try the weekly challenges. They're a great way to interact with everybody here and make new friends. You will also have something to compare to. Nice to have you here.

Welcome to Drawspace! I certainly hope it won't take months for you add something to your gallery. This a place for complete beginners to learn, so nobody gasps in horror at a less than perfect drawing. happy.gif Please speak up if you ever need help with anything that you're working with.

I buy my supplies at Michaels usually, but there's probably cheaper places online. I just like going there because there's a Starbucks cafe next door. laugh.gif Oh, a quick tip about kneaded erasers... I just found my favorite one ever, it's a General's jumbo grey kneaded eraser. For the last few months I was putting up with these extra-soft white erasers that I got on sale, and they were all sticky and tended to smudge more than erase... I suspect that's why they were on sale... So anyway, hope you have fun shopping! cool.gif

Forgot to add, I'm also a mother of two and wife of a Marine lifer, so we've got a lot in common.

Welcome to Drawspace Milk!! This is an excellent site, the weekly challenges are awesome, check it out. Don't be afraid to post your work, there are people of all levels here, from beginners to well seasoned artists. Every piece of art is important and has something to deliver. I'm looking forward to seeing something in your gallery soon so hurry up and get those supplies. laugh.gif

Btw, I get my supplies at Curry's Art Store. It's a canadian store and it has everything I need. Michaels is good too but I found them more expensive.

Glad to have you with us!! smile.gif
