All levels of drawing are encouraged to participate!

The goal of this thread is to enable and encourage individuals to practice their drawing skills, learn new techniques and have fun! If you just want to sketch that?€™s fine. If you want to create a complex, detailed drawing, that?€™s great too. You will get out of this what you want. The references used are from my own personal reference library of images that I have photographed and I release them here as not under copyright, meaning you can use them as you wish for drawing.

You will be challenged by some aspect of all references most likely as you all will have different strengths and weaknesses in your ability to translate the images to paper.

Reminder:

This is a DRAWING challenge. Therefore please confine your artistic endeavours to some form of drawing: graphite, coloured pencil, pen and ink or charcoal.

There is no ruling on what size your final drawing or sketch should be. Smaller, sketchbook sizes will provide a smaller file size which is easier for loading onto the thread.

If you would like assistance or advice, please ask for it and I will be more than willing to try to guide you.

This challenge will last for one week. At that time, all challenge drawings should be submitted to this thread.

I have offered 3-5 reference images to choose from. The images are also provided in greyscale. Seeing the images in black and white gives a better sense of basic values.

I have kept the images to simple shapes that still provide challenges. Block out your basic shapes first then work the details into them, rechecking proportion and measurement against other reference points in your drawing.

If you have an interest in hosting a challenge, please see the list in the pinned area of general discussions.

Nice pictures Oana! I don't know if i'll have time to draw any of them but i'll check back in to see what everyone else draws. I'm pretty busy right now. All my stuff is packed ready to move for tomorrow.. and I also have to finish my dogs for the ATC and I also have to study for my Tico exam :s I have to read this big pile of pages which I don't even know its about. They just told me at work I had to do that exam sad.gif

I didn't have time to do challenge this past week but my fingers are itching for this week's challenge.. the curls in Oana's hair scare me just as much as those water drops in pic #3.. lol..
texaslady-59
You all can have all those curls and raindrops.. I took the Kitten and Part of the flowers... figured a cropped flower with the beetle would be a good start .. Ha ! ...that's right .. I chickened out..
JacquiP
Fantastic set of photos. The kitten is so cute.

Carol I double doggie dare you to do one in ink, no pencil before hand. :0 And try that hair.

What is a challenge without a little friendly prompting?

Can't wait to see what everyone comes up with. This will be fun. I like the look of the statue myself.

Your drawings of the statue are great!
I don't know if this helps, but I must say that the woman is blind> she is reading with her hands and smiling. That's why I liked her so much.
It gives you a certain feeling.

Hi everybody,

First I want to thank Oana for the
You have been hard working, nice drawings have been send in alreaddy.
Here is my first attempt for this week but it's not finished yet. I've got stuck and be pleased with some help.

I chosed for color pencils on Gallery Steinbach drawing paper which is a very tiny bit of yellowish

The first attachment is in almost similar colors as the real drawing except the flowers fade away. Therefore I made a second scan of the flowers with different scanner settings. Here you can see I used green and gray for the shades on the flowers.
I also used white but whatever I do I can't seen to manage lighten up the flowers. What can I do to make them come out better.

Hi everybody,

First I want to thank Oana for the

ohmy.gif Computers and me...

Of course I wanted to thank Oana for her photographs for this weeks challenge.
Oana_D
Carol, thank you so very much. Your drawing is beautiful! wub.gif

Nerine, great flowers! rolleyes.gif

I must say these are my favourite flowers. I love their perfume, color and appearance. Their name in romanian language is "lacramioare" which means "small tears" .

I've tried to draw them. My camera doesn't go well with lightning, so I had to do some computer lightning modifications. Hope you like it.

Nerine, great flowers! rolleyes.gif

I am glad you like it but for me it's not good enough as long as the bells are so pale and you can not see the water drops on them.

I must say these are my favourite flowers. I love their perfume, color and appearance. Their name in romanian language is "lacramioare" which means "small tears" .

Lacramioare, thats hard to say out loud. In Holland it is called Lelietje-van-dalen (Lily of dales) or mei klokje (may bell) Her official name is Convallaria majalis, thats not so easy either. They belong to my favorites too and remind me of my mother the little bush lady. When I saw this picture I called out loud, Wouwww, this is my drawing for this week, (even though the fur of the kitten is screaming to be drawn).
I enclose a picture from the Dutch Wikipedia of it. Did you know it's Finlands National flower? Are there any Finns among us?
Interesting too that although it is a poisoned plant, it is used for heart medicine.
I tried to grow it in my deckhousegarden but it didn't work out. It likes a steady North I guess. Most plants do actually, its a wilderness up there.

I've tried to draw them. My camera doesn't go well with lightning, so I had to do some computer lightning modifications. Hope you like it.

Difficult isn't it to get a color drawing good visible in the computer.
Would it be so hard with wash drawing as well? I wonder how others manage to upload them so clearly.

Here are my attempts so far. I did the statue in pen and then decided to try it in liquid graphite, I should have stopped before going further downhill.

Also tried the kitten with liquid graphite. His face is too long but otherwise not too bad. He was fun.
