Brian David Dekter

Hi all,

welcome to Snoopy 101's Pinocchio challenge, my name is Brian your host and curator of Snoopy 101, although I am no expert on this....

Pinocchio most of us know him as a fictional character known for having a long nose that becomes longer every time he is under stress or tells a lie. He is truly one of my favorites of all time, first appeared in 1883 in "The Adventures Of Pinocchio" created by Carlo Collodi and has since appeared in many adaptations of the storey. In 1940 the well know classic of the storey was produced by Walt Disney in an animated film based on the storey Pinocchio.

The main story line is based on a wood carver named Geppetto from a small Italian village, that carved Pinocchio out of a piece of pine and was created as a wooden puppet, but dreamt of being a real boy.

My Challenge, I encourage all levels of skill to participate, simply draw one of the references I have provided below by the original illustrators or you may use any reference of you like. You may also use any type of media you like but please no computer graphics. All drawings must be hand drawn, you may use your computer or photo shop for color or text but please post your original drawing first.

I hope you all enjoy this challenge,

Happy drawings,

Brian.

Great challenge Brian! I started out drawing Disney characters as a wee tot, matter of fact, that is how I learned to draw! What a great trip down the road of my childhood! I will try to use colored pencils to draw this! I hope I haven't taken too long to enter this challenge!
The picture attached is the picture I chose to use!

Hi MrsRawr, thanks and welcome to the challenges. I wish I would have started drawing at an early age, as I started late in life. smile.gif I bet you must be very talented, I will be looking forward to your drawing, I like the reference you have picked. The challenges never really expire so please take all the time you need to complete your drawing.

best regards,

Brian

Ok, after 13 hours of labor this is the final result. I scanned it in to the computer and it was waaaay too bright, so I took it in to Photoshop and I got the colors pretty close to the original, but not exactly. Hope you guys like it! Critiques are always welcome! Just keep in mind this is my first ever serious colored pencil work. So, if you see something I could have done better, let me know how to do it! smile.gif

Thank you Jacqui. I've played around with colored pencils here and there over the months, but nothing like this. I usually just doodle with the CP. I'm glad you like it!

Hi MrsRawr, I can not comment, " Its too Good " smile.gif honestly I think you did a spectacular job and the time you put in well worth it. I am glad you decided to pick up your color pencils again, this is truly beautiful and a delight to see, thanks so much for joining in,

Brian.

It was my pleasure Brian! I had such a great time with this one. When I first started coloring it in with the colored pencils, I had no idea how to blend them or get them to do what I wanted, but by the time i finished it up, the colored pencils were at my beck and call! Now, every picture I look at on here I want to do with my colored pencils! Thank you for helping me break the ice!

Thanks MrsRawr, I am glad you are enjoying the challenges and that they are inspiring you, that makes me very happy. I recommend checking out Jeanette's site, she is a great friend to many of us, also a teacher and a whiz with color pencils.

Hi Jon, it's great to see you join in again with another one of your wonderful drawings, I agree with Jacqui, beautiful soft shading and composition, outstanding piece of work.

Just wanted to let you know, Brian, that I did participate by drawing Jimini Cricket in pen, but the little girl that I was babysitting for at the time liked it so much that I told her to keep it. So there's nothing left to show for it, but thanks for the great challenge. Someday maybe I'll draw more, Pinocchio is so cheerful and sweet! happy.gif
Brian David Dekter
Thanks Mindy, but yes there is some thing to show, a great gift and memory for that little girl. smile.gif I bet it was great!
