Yes, I have been getting a "hi freind you may have virus activity" message with a link to solve all of my problems

for acouple of days. I called my kid who grew up to be a programmer and he reminded me this is like the phone call that starts "We believe you may have problems with your credit card and need you to verify some information..." The thing to do is to independantly check it out by going on your own to your software security provider for a checkup.
Wow I haven't gotten the gay gal one...

Oh dear - I got one from "CurioussGirl" too.
"Romance in my life at last", I thought

- but it was not to be, she's merely another robotic internet trollop, alas.

Oh come on now, Carol, it's ok to come out of the closet, we won't judge.
I got the same thing from the same spammer. It's flattering, but futile. And, as in real life, unsafe experimentation (clicking on strange links) will only lead to unwanted viruses...

Everyone should delete messages like this immediately.

I've been getting them too. The admins really need to put some defences in place for this. I reported this to an admin already and have had no reply.

I agree. I've been getting them a lot too and am beyond sick and tired or them. If this place continues to attract spammers and scammers posting links to virus infected sites in PMs or the forums, this place will start losing more of it's legit members.

Yep, I agree, it's a major problem.

You can also let us know the user's name so we can delete them.

OK, I don't know why I didn't think of that. I am trying to remember. I did check out his profile , no gallery, picture (of course) it said that he had been a member since the Feb. 13 2010.
I also got a message about a month ago from someone that said " hi Chris you are very pretty and i want to meet you" it was weird, It seemed like she had no clue about drawing and she included either an email address or website, I don't remember but in the address it said chrismh. I deleted that one as well because I thought that may be a virus as well. When I got them I deleted them right away thinking the quicker the better. I have gotten them before on my yahoo email and I am always afraid to forward them so it doesn't effect anyone else.
if I get another one I'll let you know.

I agree, this is becoming a real pain on DS. Could we not have some sort of screening method for new members i.e. when you first join you only have a limited account where you can not post links and maybe have no PM capabilities at first. I belong to another art forum which has a similar method to this and we do not seem to have the same problems as DS has

Newbies can't post links, so the old porn-laden topic spam is gone (remember those?) The admin folks have now modified things to throttle back PM sending, so the spammers are now strongly curtailed. I expect it to soon stop altogether, just like what happened with porn topic spam. The events discussed in this thread all happened before these changes were made to the forum.
