When I was eight I had a little fight with one of my cousins and she ended up turning everyone against me and no one was in the house so I was sitting in the living room doing nothing when one of my aunts asked me if I wanted to go In her room I was so happy she gave me a piece of paper and told me to draw what ever I wanted I drew a river with trees on each side after that I became addicted I don’t know what it was but I loved that feeling and I became more interested every day I wanted to see and learn more I never went any where without my drawing book and I still don’t its my ticket to my own world

My Mom used to draw when i was young and we always had a couple of her drawings on the wall
its only when we moved house and they got took down that you noticed that they were there as you get used to these things
if i remember right it was a drawing of a little wesstie dog and Mick Jagger as my Dad loved him
then around when i was 18 i was hooked on Iron maiden and for no reason maybe bordom and broke so couldnt goto the pub i drew on of their album covers , i showed my mom and she was like wow you Traced this ,, but i hadnt ,, thenmy next pay check came in and i was back to the pub chasing women
the thing is that one comment stayed in my head all these years " i traced it "knowing i never always made me think that one day i will draw again just to see and that day came november last year
im glad it came then and not sooner as forums like this so help you feel good about what you do and help so much
so always been inlove with the talents of artists and the potential to draw and think i willbe drawing for a few years to come till i can crack it

My earliest memories were probably age 4 or 5.. always before I just colored with crayons on color books.. Then I was being a brat one day and my mother handed me a piece of paper and a pencil and said ...here.. draw me a dog .. well folks .. she created a monster.. I would finish one drawing ( not all that legible either ,,more like a stick figure ) and then I would run around the house asking other members of the family what they would like for me to draw.. To this day I still think they just used that to keep me from being that brat again..
I suppose the real beginning was when I was about 10,,I wanted to paint something for my Grandmother for her birthday.. I saw something done on material and the wheels began to turn.. I wanted to paint on cloth.. I begged mom for some old scraps and then looked through a Field and Stream magazine and found a picture of a big bear and a stream and fish jumping out of the water . The bear had a fish in his mouth .. the whole thing was amazing to me.. I had to do that for her..
I did 3 paintings on three panels of cloth.. Now here's where I got in trouble.. I wanted it to be colorful but didn't have any paints .. so ...being the sly little sister .. I went in and stole my brother's model car paints .. Needless to say he wasn't happy with me .. That's a whole nuther story.
When my Grandmother passed away one of my aunts took those paintings I had done so long ago ,,I am 61 now ,, and she hung them in her house.. Model Car paint holds up pretty well over the years.. Somewhere I have a photo of them hanging on my Grandmothers wall .. I will have to find it and post it .. my Uncle had framed them for me.. So many memories that I could share along the way... from there to here.. Thanks Mom..

I don't really know when I fell in love with drawing. I do know that as a child, and even to the present day, I love to color! Crayons, pencils, whatever! It's a very soothing activity!
Then I went to college away from home and made friends, most of which could draw. I didn't really feel the want or need to draw until I feel in love with anime and wanted to draw those types of pictures. As it turns out, one of the friends I made in college was also an anime fan. She would draw in her own type of anime style and I would try to draw in mine, but nothing ever turned out as I wanted.
In my second to last year, my two roommates both took up drawing. The one more than the other, but both really dove into making thier skills much better. I would spend loads of time just watching them draw and sketch and paint, and eventually I found myself wishing that I could do that, too.
This lead me to buying How To Draw books and nothing really helped. Then I became determined about 2 months ago and began my search to find the key to help me learn to draw. I happend to stumble on this site and started the lessons. So far, I feel like I have been being successful ever since, and have a real passion to continue to get better and better.

Drawing was just what we did in our house ...my father drew and painted everything ..from our the most unique designs on our kitchen cupboards ..to his van he used for his business ( a Interior and Exterior painter ) ..his brother my uncle drew on everything from the inside of a cereal box to toilet paper rolls for a revolving photo lol very creative . I use to color alot and always add to the picture and change everything about barbie like give her red hair ..draw poka dots on her dress ect...add a cat or even a smoke in her hand lol I did crazy stuff like that but there was not a certain age where I fell in love ..it was just something we did alot of .

My family was always very crafty and creative. My mom did leatherwork and my dad was into drafting. I colored a lot as a kid, and even experimented with blending the crayon colors gradually from one color to another. I used to try to draw the comic strips from the newspaper, like Garfield. In school during boring lectures, I'd draw my hand in different positions on the back of my paper. One time I was caught, and my math teacher just laughed and said how good it was. Both of my older brothers were very gifted with being able to draw, although they both gave it up soon after high school. I never understood why.
So here I am, just continuing to improve a skill that I've always been quite fond of.

I used to draw all the time when I was growing up. I even went to Louisianan Art Institute when I was 20. I didn't finish because I was a single mom and ended up having to work and do all those mom things. I ended up getting married and having two more children and never drew again. Now, lots of years later, my middle son has just found out that his talent is singing. He has motivated me to pick up my pencil and start working on my "talent" again.
Now that I have found this site I have been drawing daily. I'm totally addicted to the lessons! My husband didn't even know I could draw!
I still have trouble deciding what to draw so I have a list from a scavenger hunt from another sited and I use it to come up with different things to draw that I wouldn't have drawn otherwise.

I can not say how and when I fall in love with drawing. I never thought about it. I draw since my childhood and do it for me is as natural as breathing. I can not imagine how could it be otherwise. There are many my children's drawings in my house, but it's not all. Because in the beginning, I was drawing on the wallpaper and in my books. Parents scolded and then I began to paint on paper.

My mom painted to me the beautiful princess in my childhood, I began to repeat after her, and now so far I like to draw them.
I paint to express my emotions. Otherwise, I'm starting to think that I'm just bursting.

I like to draw and I do not understand how some people can live without painting.

When I was little I was more into clay, blocks, tinkertoys, erector sets you name it. If it could be stuck, bolted, balanced or smooshed together I was a fan of it. I still am, I have a bfa in ceramics and sculpture! Drawing has always been something I have been intrigued by and knew I needed to increase my skill in it since the only time I really use it is for sketching. So I figured I have the time now, I might as well focus some of my energy towards drawing skills and doing other work as well!

Dear Friend: I have a subscription to a magazine called otaku. Is fun to read and great reference
to copy/draw/learn anime style pictures. I've been reading otaku and drawing anime for a few years.
Is been lots of fun for me !!!
I love otaku !!!
BTW otaku means friend in japanese. I suggest you read otaku and use it to copy the anime drawings
until your skill is as good as you want to.
Keep drawing !!!
Love

"Obsessive Geek" is much closer to the definition of otaku

Which oddly enough means we could apply the term to many things!!

I started with pixel art (that for who doesn't know it's drawing on the computer pixel by pixel). From pixel art I got some ideas of reflection, texture and shading and then started aplying it on paper, now I do both drawing and pixel art.

I started this time while I was working in Saudi Arabia around 1998. I had a lot of time and nothing to do. Found some books and supplies in Jeddah and started.
At first everything looked like cats. (We had a lot of them on the Site.) They were supposed to be flowers.
I stopped for a few years after moving to the Philippines and am back to it now.
I have been turned on to ATCs and have a lot of them cut out to trade.

I've always been in love with drawing / painting, but because of our stupid (yes, that's right) elementary school art teachers I didn't have the guts to start. Then one day I discovered Drawspace and began to draw again. These days I got into watercolor painting as well and I'm enjoying it 100%.

I've been drawing my whole life. I'm still young so I have a lot more drawing to do. But I really started becoming interested in art when I was in the Fourth Grade. I'll just make doodles in my notebook during class. I thought it was fun. Sometimes the teacher would walk behind me and snatch up my book in class and I'd get in trouble but I wouldn't care because class was boring and if drawing help. I'll draw. I used to have a crush on this boy and I'll make this crazy cartoon doodle of our future life, even though there was never going to be a future. But I loved to draw faces and make expressions.
