These are pictures from this past summer, taken by my Brother and my Husband.
The first Viking is my cousin, he belongs to a group called the SCA, Society for Creative Anachronism.
The other knight was helping him learn how to fight properly and safely.
The two of them put on quite a show for us.

Everyone of all levels are welcome to join this challenge.
Remember it is a drawing challenge, (painting should be done after showing your line sketch).
If the photos seem too hard, remember that you can pick one piece to work on, like a helmet.

All levels of drawing are encouraged to participate!

The goal of this thread is to enable and encourage individuals to practice their drawing skills, learn new techniques and have fun! If you just want to sketch that?€™s fine. If you want to create a complex, detailed drawing, that?€™s great too. You will get out of this what you want. The references used are from my own personal reference library of images that I have photographed and I release them here as not under copyright, meaning you can use them as you wish for drawing.

You will be challenged by some aspect of all references most likely as you all will have different strengths and weaknesses in your ability to translate the images to paper.

Reminder:

This is a DRAWING challenge. Therefore please confine your artistic endeavours to some form of drawing: graphite, coloured pencil, pen and ink or charcoal.

There is no ruling on what size your final drawing or sketch should be. Smaller, sketchbook sizes will provide a smaller file size which is easier for loading onto the thread.

If you would like assistance or advice, please ask for it and I will be more than willing to try to guide you.

This challenge will last for one week. At that time, all challenge drawings should be submitted to this thread.

I have offered 3-5 reference images to choose from. The images are also provided in greyscale. Seeing the images in black and white gives a better sense of basic values.

I have kept the images to simple shapes that still provide challenges. Block out your basic shapes first then work the details into them, rechecking proportion and measurement against other reference points in your drawing.

If you have an interest in hosting a challenge, please see the list in the pinned area of general discussions.

Here is your goat upright.
You did a great job on him.
This baby had a short hard life, he was born in the middle of a very cold winter.
He did get to spend his first few months in the house. He later got ill and stopped eating.sad.gif
My Cousin was not able to save the poor little guy.
He was a lot of fun to watch before he got sick. Loved to climb everything, but always stayed close to his mom.smile.gif

Hi Jodopsi,
Nice work on the goats!
I'm with Siks, I can't believe this is your first watercolour, you really captured them.
deboraham
May i use all the pictures in one pice?
Nancy B
Deboraham that is a great idea. With the challenges you can do them anyway you like, they are to challenge yourself .
paulette4
I can't wait to see what you do!
IslanderNL
Paulette, I've only had time to do a quick sketch and the goats appealed to me. Nice medieval touch! smile.gif

This is about 5 x 8 on canson sketch pad.

I wish I had time to do more, but other things call....

It's been snowing this afternoon - again! I used Derwent Inktense on this, but run out of paper for his feet - OK lack of planning.
JacquiP
Jeanette nice sketch on the goats. Can see the form you are getting.

Mumwond very good warrior there. Good detail on the armour. I wouldn't fuss about the feet, unless he's about to kick you smile.gif

Just sneaking in under the line once again. I had a go at the goats, pen and watercolour. Never done goats before but have been trying a few different animals lately.

Excellent drawings and paintings this week, quite a challenge I think.
Well done everyone.
I decided to have a go at the two warriors fighting. Just a fun drawing, not too serious.

paulette4
Hi Jeanette,
I'm glad you were able to stop by I love seeing your sketches!

Hi Norma,
Nice work! I did the same thing, I cut him off at the knees. LOL

Hi Jacqui,
I like seeing pen and ink drawings. Good work on them.

Hi Paul,
Wonderful! I wondered if anyone would tackle the more difficult fight picture.
You seem to have pulled the story out of the picture!
