Full Version: Giving Critiques
Drawspace forums > Activities and Challenges > Critiques

I have noticed that a number of drawings are posted for critiques and have received feedback which is wonderful. I have also noticed that there are a lot of 'fluff' praise comments in this section. Everyone needs praise and it should be given, but in a section reserved for critiques, quick 'that's nice' or 'great job' says nothing to the individual about what they are trying to achieve.

The critique forum is for individuals to receive constructive advice about how to improve their drawings. It is not a personal critique nor should it reflect on subject matter. Critiques take time to produce, a lot of study of the piece presented and understanding of how to help the individual make their drawing better.

I am not discouraging individuals commenting and everyone is capable of doing so, but it should be done so that it provide assistance to the artist to help them improve.

Here is an article that may provide a few guidelines on the critique process for those who want to learn more about providing useful critiques.

You are so right Jeanett...this section was created so people could ask for critque and could get help ...you are so helpful in that dept. smile.gif thank you .

I myself have been doing a little bit of posting here to try and help in any way I can ...I am a feel good artist lol I know that , a friend told me that a long time ago ..echelm !! I wont say a name lol no seriously you did help me when you said that because it made me realize I was no help to someone whjo was searching for help when all I seen was a good job ...because i see effort and consistant lines I find beauty in the drawing ...but I have been looking harder and asking myself " what would I change if this were mine " So I second the idea that theis section is for just that ...to help those who are asking for the help in the best way we can .

again thanks .

Thanks Kim. So many people are afraid to critique someone's work for fear of offending. But if you know what to look for and how to approach it, you can really help someone improve their abilities. And that's what we're all about here I think. Critiques are everyone's best friend.

Thanks for pinning Ernest.

That's funny Kim. smile.gif I sound like the dragon queen lol But because you took any information and absorbed it and used it, it improved your ability to move forward artistically. You are a good artist, there is no doubt. Acknowledging where we are weak and allowing others to help us improve is the sign of a professional.

I take that as a compliment ...thank you

Yes "IslanderNL", its really true to make some kind of perceptions and scrutinize their work in a correct manner, as it really helps. By the way, please also let us know about new techniques for critiques...

Thanks for awesome discussion.
