These are very nice pictures nicole .. I love the range of choices ...I cant wait to get started.
Farfallina
Thank you Nicole... very varied and nice selection of pics.

I'm going to be a little busy this week but I'll do my best to attempt at least one of them.... now if only my colours arrived!! rolleyes.gif
painter48
Great Pics, Nicole. Tough to decide which one to pick first.

I decided on the penguins - but the picture is way too small to see when you click to enlarge. When it is enlarged it is not much bigger than the thumbnail.

Could you post again but a bigger picture?
IslanderNL
Here's a sketch of Nicole. My angle is off but probably because I was sitting at the dining room table drawing instead of at my drafting table. The photo was a bit blurry so I had to 'wing it' a little. smile.gif

Of course trying to get a decent scan seems impossible and a digital camera impossible in artificial light. Sigh. I'll get a better image tomorrow.

very nice portrait Jeanette ... I think it looks like her alot . smile.gif
racedolls

Lori
Cyn
I don't know about you guys and gals, but if I had 1/10th of the talent that Jeanette has in her little finger, and I could sketch out something that actually looked like the subject at hand, I would think I died and went to heaven. laugh.gif
ukartist

vhpayes
Hi Nicole, YOu gave us great choices, I think I will tackle the fruit cool.gif
Farfallina
Here;s my little contribution to this challenge... I wish I could have done the flower center better but I just couldn't figure out what to do.

I don't know whether I'll have time to do more. But then if my Prismas come I might very well tackle something else.

I'd like to give the castle a shot, but that reference image is really tiny
paulette4
Here is my ten minute sketch of Nicole. I used a brown ochre derwent drawing pencil. I also did this by trying to just shade it in, no lines. I still have to work on getting my drawing to look like my person. Practice, practice, practice. [attachmentid=1693]
paulette4
Alright, here is my spent way-y more time drawing. I over worked the right (viewers) eye, so it's a little smudged where I tried to work it some more. blush.gif Let me know what you think, does it look like our host?
[attachmentid=1701]
IslanderNL
You've done a lovely job on the flower Rose. With an object like that you can either go totally into fine detail or just do a loose impression of it. The image doesn't have a high enough resolution to do really fine detail so you made the right choice here.

Paulette, I think you've got a likeness there. The wonderful thing is that you have recognized areas that needed adjusting and did so. That really is a good thing. Take your time, measure, measure, measure, practice, practice practice. smile.gif

I love the sepia tones of derwent drawing pencils don't you? And they work especially well for this image. I was thinking of redoing mine one in this too.

racedolls
wow rose great job. i love it. paulette you have done a great job with the portrait. i was thinking of doing that one too. the picture is blurry though but you did great with it.
Lori
paulette4
Jeanette and Lori,
Thank you. This was my first time using the derwent pencil. It was very nice to work with. Yes, the picture seems to call for it on its own. I would love to see yours done in sepia. When your doing a picture free hand (no grids) how do you go about using your measurements on the paper? Do you use a ruler or just your fingers?
Paulette
Nellie
Here is my drawing for your challenge. I used pastel pencils. happy.gif
IslanderNL
If I get time this week, I'll have another go in the derwents. I do love those pencils a lot. They're so smooth.

When I draw freehand I just eyeball my measurements and proportions. I do pencil measurements, making sure major points line up where they should in comparison to the reference or live model. It comes with time and practice (yeah I know you've heard that word before smile.gif) and I don't always get it right. The drawing I did of Nicole is off on an angle as I wasn't at my usual drawing place so had a distorted view plane.

Nellie, love the flower drawing. The paper choice is brilliant. Well done.
ukartist
you all are doing very good drawings well done keep up the good work wub.gif

sorry that i havent been around im exstreamly unwell but i aint forgot about u all take care for now and looking forward to seeing all of your drawings tongue.gif

I'm still plodding away with my kids' colours and I guess using a medium grain paper was not such a great idea either!

Anyway.. here it is:

Very funny, BriGuy... laugh.gif I love the Bun Bag.. It's nice to have your own character.
I can hardly wait to see what I do next. wub.gif
Nice Toucan. Very pretty. Everyone is doing great. I got the Toucan roughly sketched but haven't had a chance to finish it.. Maybe today or tomorrow. Sometimes when life happens, all you can do is hang on with both hands and try to enjoy the ride. Even when it's a bumpy ride. tongue.gif
twincedar
Hello everyone! All of the drawings for this challenge are great! I have been working on mine for a couple of days and I see I selected the same as many other people did. The Toucan. I did mine in colored pencils. I probably could have done better with the background. I really enjoy these challenges and seeing the different interpretations of the reference images. Everyone does such a good job!
