Hello Everyone!

It's time for another drawspace challenge, I hope you all can participate this week. Have fun. smile.gif

All levels of drawing are encouraged to participate!

The goal of this thread is to enable and encourage individuals to practice their drawing skills, learn new techniques and have fun! If you just want to sketch that?€™s fine. If you want to create a complex, detailed drawing, that?€™s great too. You will get out of this what you want. The references used are from my own personal reference library of images that I have photographed and I release them here as not under copyright, meaning you can use them as you wish for drawing.

You will be challenged by some aspect of all references most likely as you all will have different strengths and weaknesses in your ability to translate the images to paper.

Reminder:

This is a DRAWING challenge. Therefore please confine your artistic endeavors to some form of drawing: graphite, colored pencil, pen and ink or charcoal.

There is no ruling on what size your final drawing or sketch should be. Smaller, sketchbook sizes will provide a smaller file size which is easier for loading onto the thread.

If you would like assistance or advice, please ask for it and I will be more than willing to try to guide you.

This challenge will last for one week. At that time, all challenge drawings should be submitted to this thread.

I have offered 3-5 reference images to choose from. The images are also provided in greyscale. Seeing the images in black and white gives a better sense of basic values.

I have kept the images to simple shapes that still provide challenges. Block out your basic shapes first then work the details into them, rechecking proportion and measurement against other reference points in your drawing.

If you have an interest in hosting a challenge, please see the list in the pinned area of general discussions.

I always have to include a picture of Gabe and Ava wink.gif

I took this picture at an old cemetery that we found along the side of a road, all of the headstones were dated from the 1800's. Some of the headstones had coins on top of them which I thought was pretty cool considering how old the headstones were. We took these pictures for a project that Gabe had to do in his art class at school( They had to find something to do a rubbing on, of course his was the coolest! wink.gif ). We had a great time looking for the oldest dates.

lmao.. I don't know.. but winter can get kind of tricky with all that snow, having to leave the blank spots for all those snowflakes and all. tongue.gif

I'm mostly freaking out about having two people on one sheet of paper.. laugh.gif

Okay thought I would try the cub. I started alright but got lost along the way with this, proportions went wrong. Found this hard to draw. I am more of a dog person so the emotion and passion to draw this one wasn't there.
I will however like to try other animals including cats to see if i can improve on this.

Jon I think you did really well on the cub, esp as you haven't drawn cats before. I like the expression on his face. He is one I have been playing with too.

Great work Jon!! I love the eyes and the expression. smile.gif

Here are a couple of quick pieces. The lion cub just called out for colour - watercolour and pen. Then I had some fun doodling with a few of the buttons, they were so cool to do. Great idea with them Chris.

You did a great job Jon! I think he looks adorable! I have yet to attempt an animal so I can only imagine how difficult they are to draw.

Great Job!

Carol... I said to myself yesterday that I am so sick of seeing snow so I went outside and all of the snow that I had shoveled off the driveway I scooped up and threw it all back on the driveway so it would melt! I'm sure the neighbors got a good laugh at that one. ( They know me well enough to expect the unexpected from my kids and me, we do get a little crazy at times) tongue.gif
Jonyates
Paul excellent button I love the shading and realness of this, well done.

Carol, as always an excellent portrait. Looks fantastic makes me feel cold. We don't get much snow down here in Aus so its a wonderful pic for me to see.

Hi Jon
We got about 2 and 1/2 feet for that storm, The kids were outside for what seemed like forever. They canceled school for 2 days. It was great, I love the big snow storms. I'm happy that Australia did not part of that tsunami. ohmy.gif

Yeah me too we had a few king tides but nothing to major. My wife and daughter have never seen snow so I am hoping one day to go to southern NSW or over to New Zealand. I was born in UK so I remember it from then (I was 6 when we came to Aus) just.

Here is my contribution for this week: Gabe and Ava. I have to say this was a real challenge, more difficult than it first seemed. First of all I had two people on the same sheet of paper that I always use for challenges, which meant drawing portraits on much smaller scale that I'm accustomed to. And then there was the snow and the whole winter wonderland which I had never drawn before.. it turns out it's a little more to it then leaving a blank space...(you got me Chris laugh.gif ).. all in all... great challenge, I have so much to learn.

Thanks for hosting this week Chris!! smile.gif

Chris.. I am afraid I probably would have had to giggle at your antics myself..

Sort of reminds me of the Internet joke that has been going around about these 2 blonds working outside.. one was digging a hole and right next to her another blond was filling it back in .. when asked why ,,the first one said that the blond who normally puts the tree in the hole was sick today...
If anyone asks you tell them the blond who drives the truck to carry the snow off was sick that day. wink.gif

I may have to change that. wink.gif
