Just keep in mind that with these automatic translators, lots of stuff gets lost in translation, literally. Let me give you an example.
Source text, "Está dibujo esta muy precioso !" -> This drawing is very beautiful!

Google translation : This drawing is very beautiful!
So that's exactly what I wrote. Good job, Google ! (It's one of the best online translators you can find on the web. biggrin.gif wink.gif )

Machine translation : Is drawing this very precious one!
You kinda get the idea, but the wording is a little less elegant. tongue.gif

Yahoo Babelfish : This is very precious drawing!
Closer, but no cigars.

So my humble suggestion is to stick with the Google translator, or ask around ! I'm actually an English-to-French translator, my Spanish isn't too bad either, and I can read some Italian. I'll be glad to help ! wink.gif cool.gif

Source text, "Está dibujo esta muy precioso !"

sorry but the word Está with accent is wrong here.Should be ESTE.The accent should be on the second word esta.
so the correct version is:

Este dibujo está muy precioso.

My opinion is that these translators translate just words not the sense and the accurate meaning of sentences. And communication is about precision and accuracy of meanings, otherwise ends in confusion.

I agree. With automatic translators you can catch an aproximate meaning, which is quite valuable, but you lose the subtilities.
For example, in the phrase "Este dibujo está muy precioso", the word "precioso" is a superlative, so something can be "precioso" but not "muy precioso". You can say "muy lindo", "muy bueno", but not "muy precioso".
Nevertheless, the general meaning is understood.

Claudio, I appreciate you mentioned that. I didn't want to seem to drastic with that poor phrase."Precioso" is altogether inappropiate for paintings or drawings so more its usage here sounds coming from a non speaker of Spanish.
Anyway these are just speculations we make on an example that was meant to show us the way web traslators work.

Elena, you brought to our attention an interesting subject. Using a software to translate from one language to another works if what you are translating is simply written; the simplest, the better results. Like in "I like your picture" being tranformed in "Me gusta su pintura". However, when you want to express more complex thoughts through writing, no software is still capable of matching the utmost translator: human brain.
Nevertheless, I think that English has became a kind of universal ground of understanding for all the world. It is nice and useful to know different languages, but English nowadays is mandatory.
Best regards.
Claudio
