Welcome to the December trade. I'm Donna, and I'll be your host for the month.
Subject: Holiday Traditions - We are a pretty diverse group here on Drawspace celebrating different holidays in different ways. The idea behind this month's trade is for you to share the traditions and customs surrounding the holidays that are important to you.
This is a drawing challenge where any medium is welcome - please no computer art!
~ The dimensions for the cards are as follows : 2.5 x 3.5 inches or 6.35 x 8.89 cm. As for paper type, a good cardstock, Bristol, or watercolor paper is recommended.
~ Please mark the reverse of your card with your name, the subject, and any other information you feel might be relevant.
~Please ensure that recipient's addresses AND your return addresses are correct on your envelopes, as some of these travel a very long way, and we don't want any to go missing.
Sign-up starts December 1, 2010, and will run for one week, closing on December 7, 2010. You then have until December 31, 2010 to complete your cards and send them out, one for each person on the list. Please PM me with your name and complete address, and I will send them out to the group when the sign-up is closed.
If you need help or have any questions, please give us a shout - we are all more than happy to help.

Wahoo! Looks like we're going to have a great trade!
mommatee -- you beat me in this morning...I was up late last night...still drinking wine, lol.
Carol -- There's nothing more tragic than a bottle of wine and no corkscrew.
Roxy -- That's the spririt. Tis the season of overextending yourself, afterall. If I could figure out how to illustrate that it could be one of my ATC's.

This isn't exclusively about Christmas isn't it? So I could draw something that has to do with Eid ul-Fitr (breaking the Fast, the end of the Ramadan) if I wanted to?
Or Halloween?

Yeah, that's my plan too. I wasn't late with the last one, but it took a Herculean effort to get them done on time.

Hi guys,
I need to sit this one out. I apologize for my cards not getting out. My October Stones & Rocks are all complete... they've been ready for weeks. I hope to finally get them out this weekend. My November cards are about halfway done. Work has picked up alot, my apartment is a lot of work, and my great-grandmother (of 99 3/4 years) recently passed away. So I am going to work on catching up and getting my cards sent out. I promise you will all get them, well, eventually.
Enjoy the trade and the holiday season! I look forward to seeing each of your traditions.

So sorry about your grandma. She sure lived a long life. Almost to 100. What an accomplishment. Don't worry about the cards. Just take care of yourself and finish them when things are better. Hugs, Jeanne

Here are 5 cards I have finished. I have 3 more sketched. I'm using my ornaments and stuffed animals I have bought to use as models and to sit around for decorations. Not decorating this year so figured I may as well use them for the cards. The one of the door is my front door with the stocking I have for the 2 dogs. It has 2 stuffed toys in it apiece for them...so far. I'm a sucker for the look and reaction my dogs have when they get new toys. So they get lots. In fact they try to go thru any bags I bring in.

Andrea -- So sorry to hear about your grandmother. We'll miss you in the trade. It's so easy to get overwhelmed this time of year...try not to get too frazzled!
Jeanne -- Those are fantastic! My cat used to love Christmas too. She got so excited when we put up her tree with all those neat toys hanging on it. She also loved it when I came home with bags, although being a cat, what she really wanted was to play in the bag, not what was in it. Well, unless she smelled catnip. Then that was a different story.

*Roxy*
Dec 7 2010, 01:03 AM
I want to apply to University here in Montreal in art education but I need to make a portfolio for the application and I'm taking way too long to start I have about one thing I can put in and I need about 20-30 different kind of things. It's due in March I just don't know where to start basically.
Edelweiss
Dec 7 2010, 01:32 PM
How nice! You must be very happy

The best way to start (I think) is asking them what they are looking for in such a portfolio. I know that Art Universities in our country appreciate certain types of drawings/works in a portfolio like this. And start working...you don't have much time left.
Good luck!

Roxy I am just learning about Pastels .. I may do a couple I am so slow ...so far only 2 drawn out.. .. With Work and other obligations I am finding time is NOT my friend..

Dec 8 2010, 03:34 AM
Time is so not my friend either I like never have time an I'm always tired. So I sleep as much as I can in the morning but then I only have time to get ready and go to work. I never really worked with pastels so it's nothing special. The classes I'm taking is with this girl and she's really good at pastels so that's why I chose pastels to learn. You should check out her art Melissabreault.ca

Hi everyone! It looks like we're going to have an awesome trade here. We have 10 traders so you'll be making 9 ATC's plus one for yourself, if you choose. I just sent the addresses to everyone so that you have them all in the same place. Let me know if you don't get your list, or if you have any other questions.
It would be great if everyone would post pictures of their ATC's in this thread (as Jeanne has already done with her beautiful ATC's) so that we all get to see them and admire them!
Happy Trading and Happy Holidays!
