My name is Kay, and this week I will be your host ...I have picked a few Images and hope you enjoy them

All levels of drawing are encouraged to participate!

The goal of this thread is to enable and encourage individuals to practice their drawing skills, learn new techniques and have fun! If you just want to sketch that’s fine. If you want to create a complex, detailed drawing, that’s great too. You will get out of this what you want. The references used are from my own personal reference library of images that I have photographed and I release them here as not under copyright, meaning you can use them as you wish for drawing.

Reminder:

This is a DRAWING challenge. Therefore please confine your artistic endeavours to some form of drawing: graphite, coloured pencil, pen and ink or charcoal.

There is no ruling on what size your final drawing or sketch should be. Smaller, sketchbook sizes will provide a smaller file size which is easier for loading onto the thread.

If you would like assistance or advice, please ask for it and I will be more than willing to try to guide you or someone else will.

This challenge will last for one week. At that time, all challenge drawings should be submitted to this thread.

My goodness Kay I think you have it !!!! Good Job on the details.. Be careful these old modified Classics could be Habit Forming .. !!
oliverandjazz
Thank you Carol..I dont think my cars will ever meet your standards (no pun intended), but I learn something with each one..last year there is no way i could have done this much..so i have grown a lot in this area..this time..drawing my tires in the squares actually KICKED IN..i have been trying to understand that for a while, and it finally CLICKED..I am a really tough nut to crack in this area. happy.gif
Just being encouraged though is great and helps me alot, I still wish I had someone i could take my drawing too and say SHOW ME...but alas, no one I know likes to draw.

Due to what has now become a full on ATC addiction - here's another 2.5"X3.5"

oliverandjazz
she made a lovely atc card..I love it, you are hooked..ME 2..You have a real knack for the small format
ElenaM
I might try the car even if I have no love for cars.I don't drive and never had a car or any interest in cars.In California my husband is my personal chauffeur.
In Europe you go by taxi when in a hurry or you walk given the size of cities.I don't like the subway either. Only ground transportation.
But this car being old model has some appeal to me.
oliverandjazz
sad.gif I am afraid I have not done so well for my first challenge, perhaps next time..Good luck with the car
ElenaM
Don't take personally, Kay.It's low season in drawing. It has been so since January.Folks that used to show up everyday in the forums are gone.Practically the site has one steady activity, the ATC cards.
Now about the pics. I guess that everyday household objects are more successful.I learned it from my challenges.Usually simple things work fine. It's a shame because there are more complex subjects that are challenging, but people prefer simple stuff with little or no detail.
I myself feel so far from the thrill of drawing I had last year.Since the begining of this year i did four or five drawings besides the brush work in Chinese painting that takes 5-10 minutes a piece.
I don't do trade cards because I cannot draw so small, I prefer large size drawing. What we need to engage people is probably another workshop or maybe a secret Easter bunny
activity.That would be great.
kim1963
People come and go in any forum ....I believe the site has more then one steady activity ....the cards are very active thanks to Kay and her hard work smile.gif

I also am sorry for the confusion ..I checked as well and did not see you listed for the next challenge so I gave Kay the go ahead ...she posted this challenge at the time it was due to be up ...no one had step forward ...

people do love this thread ...we have offered it for a long time ...what i think should be kept in mind when running a challenge that requires you to come up with the images ..is give a wide range of things to draw ....some easy and some very challenging ...colorful images help ...even a fork with all the reflections .

Very good point, Kim. A simple subject, with the right amount of light and shadow that create reflections, like a spoon, fork, kettle is just the right reference photo one can take easily at home. This is exactly what i meant by simple subjects. But the light issue is very important, usually best pics are taken in daylight, a sunny window, etc.

Excellent drawing and I like your approach - to put in some imaginary characters into the composition. Congratulations!

P.S. Is the knight(prince) hesitating whether to kiss the angel?
oliverandjazz
That is really great..I love the whole thing..You did a great job on the angel itself and then all that creativity and imagination really turned that into a great piece of artwork..very nicely done biggrin.gif

I am checking all the drawings presented in this challenge so far and I must say they are all wonderful!! Congratulations to all!
I loved your car, Carol...
Dir3kt, I am really amazed with your interpretation of the guardian angel photo... I just had to say that I loved it! Great imagination!
I am trying to find some free time to also give my contribution to this wonderful challenge! Thank you Kay for the wonderful and inspiring photos...

I have no idea, you may ask him.
ElenaM
quite embarrassed with the result but this is my first attempt at a car ever;
took me 45 minutes, graphite on sketchbook pad 9x12in.
At least i know where i made my mistakes, the front part is too long that's why falls off perspective.
oliverandjazz
look at you..thanks for posting ..that is quite good actually for a few mins of a sketch..I wrestled all day with mine.. biggrin.gif
ElenaM
Thanks, Kay, this was just a warm up since i tried right after it one of Barmak's portraits.I really have a long way to go in drawing.

Hello, dear Kay! I just checked your car and I don´t understand why you´re not happy about it.
Your car is also wonderful, as it is Carol´s car. Both are great in your own interpretation! Yours is brighter, happier and it reflects your personality!
I really must congratulate you because is not fair that you´re feeling down when indeed you did an amazing drawing!!

Warm regards,
Sonia.

Elena!! It´s a wonderful warm up sketch!! You are all so talented!
You are doing great in this challenge, as always...

P.S. Sorry for keeping posting without presenting my drawing, but I cannot help myself with the urge to congratulate you all... I already had my contribution in Brian´s challenge, so now I think I´m free to join you in this challenge as well, if my daughter agrees in going to bed early tonight! biggrin.gif

Kind regards,
Sonia.

Hi,
I am contributing with two drawings for the first time this week. The flowers which I am not so satisfied with (I did it with childrens' water pastels) and the something-saurus smile.gif in ordinary 7B pencil.
oliverandjazz
They are both wonderful..and i love the job you did on the thingamasaurus biggrin.gif

Albis_Tina
I agree with Sonia, Kay. wub.gif
Your car has turned out wonderful. Don't be too critical on yourself. especially the car is very difficult to draw and you did a great job.
You know - we always always always can do things better - no matter if we are called Kay, Tina or Van Gogh. This what keeps us drawing and painting.

I like the pic you posted for the challenge - I will try my pencils on that dinosaur (2. one) but maybe I won't post it in time.

Hi to all,

Here is my version of the angel. I had to improvise some details due to the low resolution of the photo. But here it is. Probably needs more time to work, but I decided to stop here.

Bye,
Turrialba
oliverandjazz
Thank you Turri for taking the time to post and the drawing is really lovely, i apologize as the photos were last minute..the angel is very well done

I decided to have some more fun modifying cars slightly on this challenge.

Here's a cartoon version of the hot rod. I hope the proud owner is done some justice by my attempt.

Some prospective has been purposefully warped for cartoon effect.

I was confronted today by an artist friend with "have you drawn anything lately?"
So here I am looking at this week's challenge and seeing what I could come up with as a quick sketch.
