With a focus on improving your observation skills, you first sketch Tuttle's proportions within a simple grid, then outline him with nice neat lines and finally add shading.

The grid idea works for me, there seems to be less mistakes with proportions.

the grid is a great resource. make sure your pencils stay sharp or your shading puddles. it was a great beginning and came out fantastic.
