Learning how to render value scales, a broad range of different values, is an integral aspect of shading. Crosshatching is a highly effective technique for drawing various realistic and creative textures.

Hi there, this is an excellent lesson regarding Crosshatching, which is most useful in combination with other methods, anything goes as long that we can reach closest to the original intention which was set in the mind from the time we had the desire to express an idea or concept, be for our own satisfaction or for expressing an idea for others to see. Drawing is a form of human expression, just as much as writing although even more powerful, as the emperor of France Napoleon I once said to its generals on the battlefield, give me a sketch of what you have seen, it will speak better than a thousand words. Indeed, drawings are so powerful that states including the one of the USA are attempting to use strong laws of censorship to stop artists to exhibit their drawings if the content displease the establishment. Confiscation of artworks by authority is becoming quiet common now even more so than in the past, so, drawing is a very powerful medium and to excel in it is to be encouraged by all means. So, this particular website in my view is great in many aspects.
Thank you for your attention smile.gif

After months of practice I am finally noticing a difference, especially comparing this set of crosshatching values to the ones I did in the first section.

Can anyone offer suggestions on what the different practices drawings could be used for? I see a fish net in one, and maybe an orange? I'm trying to develop my eye, to see the lines and patterns in things around me.

Come on, it's only 25 bucks for all the lessons!
I downloaded them all, wishing to print them.
But then I noticed the whole site contains about 1500 - 2000 pages of drawing lessons.

cross hatching is not just crossing two lines in my culture hatching has a number of meanins and applications and when depicted in the right context can have deep spiritual meanings e.t.c and each or all of the nations have a different form/shape of cross hatching which is called rark in the nothern lands and mudji in the south
cross hatching can depict distance the land also some clans are crosshatching on their skins (rugs/cloaks) and weapons and toys --all clans belong to a specific diamond shape and everyone knew each others shapes and markings as we grew up in the camps and seasonal homes
on the land.
However having said all that I find hatching for the shady effect is very effective and use the techneek oftenClick to view attachment
