smile.gif Apart from your interest in drawing/painting; what else do you do? I play guitar and write and record (not terribly well) songs! I love going out with my camera, and I also like to make miniature buildings! I don't think I'm that good at anything I do, but I have a compulsion to create things! I enjoy the creative process. I accepted a long time ago that I was never going to be the next Jimi Hendrix or John Constable! But I love doing things.

So what do you do? and why?
kim1963
Lets see ...aside from art I do many things ..I love to ride bikes ( peddle bike) .

I crochet almost anything ...I was thinking that being my nephew lost his baby at 5months inutero and they gave the baby this really tiny hat that some women crocheted for the hospital babies that were still births ...well I make very cute boy and girl hats and am thinking I will do alot of them and donate them as well .

I tattoo as a hobby .. I went through a shop a long time ago then just went on my own ...everything I use id disposable so no worries there .. worked for the main hospital here for years and know all about cross contamination .

I have two daughter who come first in my life so I am always doing something for them .. a ride here or a trip to the mall for something they need...and I love very much doing for them they are good girls .

I visit my mother .. I make it a weekly thing at least three times I stop in and chat with her ...I try to keep her home clean so she does not have to worry about it and can spend her time having fun with her sister and niece .

If I can make someone smile ...old young dont matter ...my day is good smile.gif

those are just a few things I enjoy smile.gif
oliverandjazz
i sculpt, love gardening when i can.. I am super homey except for cooking...I HATE TO COOK.
i love all arts and crafts and i even built a huge dollhouse and sculptured every single piece of furniture in it..every thing..beds, the beaureaus actually work, i put electricity into it and the lights actually work, i even sculptured my own tiffany lamp for it..the thing is loaded with furniture and i even sculptured all the ppl..if you are interested in seeing the pics i would love to show you..it took me an entire year to complete
Raidor
I wrote it in my profile :
drawing, painting, riding, motobycle, parachuting, reading, handcraft
... all that I need from my job at the required distance to stop and refuel with new energy smile.gif

(I work as an Paramedic by the German Red Cross ambulance on an approximately 48 - 60 hours / week )

I also do physical therapy and acupuncture / acupressure, and a little ostheopathie =

So I need already almost a diary for my leisure laugh.gif laugh.gif
kim1963
Paramedic ...wow that is awsome you help people ...I use to work for the hospital in the ER and i loved it ....I met alot of you Paramedics smile.gif

Kay I too have a house ...was a kit but the furniture I am doing some by hand ....mine is all painted but not sure what to use for carpet tile ect ..
would LOVE to see your work and all the stuff you built .. it would be a thrill ! please upload them here to share or just send them email .
ncgirl
I'm a little humdrum compared to you guys! happy.gif Besides drawing, I take care of my cats (the dog helps), love photography, and also doing research on my family history. Too klutzy for crafts, can't cook. Hey I do have a sewing machine, it's kind of dusty though. tongue.gif
oliverandjazz
no problem... i shall work on that now...this dollhouse was also a kit..i just modified it with electricity.. but those kits are hard work..figuring all the pieces out is always a challenge, then popping them out carefully, then sanding each one and painting and then the assembly...loads of work. hang on a sec and i will get the pics uploaded
oliverandjazz
ok..here is the house, it is the largest kit they make, and it is huge it is nearly 4 ft tall and over 3 feet in an L shape..

I can believe it - that`s soo great exellent work, wow - it`s fantastic
mumwond
That's amazing, Kay. I've often thought of doing one, but never got around to it. I really admire your patience. I can imagine starting and never finishing. Well done.
titofsh
Great work Kay, i too love making tiny things! the last thing i build was a castle made from pebbles(unfortnatelly this not a very satble way to build, so it fell apart ando i ended up throwing it away) maybe i'll do one again this summer!
I also love to dance, anything that i can find a beat too, some photography, and walking, I walk everywhere!!!!!
oliverandjazz
thanks guys very much..it was a wonderful experience, i did it all myself..no help from hubby, well i did use him to help me move it around..it is going to be a wonderful keepsake for someone in my family some day, i decorate it at diff times of year too..christmas lights, pumpkins, fall foliage around the post and what not and i even made all of the plants for it wink.gif winters are very long and this was quite a suitable project..i bought a book on furniture making for dollhouse but it was meant for wood..but i just used the patterns on polymer clay..worked sooo awesome, piece had to be measured, sliced, baked, sanded, handpainted, glued together and varnished..lots of work involved on each piece
TrishO116
Wow Kay! I admire your craftsmanship and patience. It looks wonderful. Do you dress the people or are they nudists? biggrin.gif Just kidding! Seriously, that must have been so much work. The results are beautiful.

Now on to what else do I do. I am a caregiver for my husband, he is 82 and in declining health. That takes a major part of my time. I do enjoy reading (as anyone who visited the reading thread can tell you). I love music of all genres, except rap and heavy metal. I enjoy the computer. I am into photography and recently made the leap from point and shoot digital to a DSLR Nikon. I am still learning all the bells and whistles on that camera. I maintain a sketchbook journal, and a blog. I enjoy our two dogs, Peppi, a toy poodle, and Mieko, a Japanese Chin. I love to play cards, or board games and Wii. I enjoy going to concerts, last November I saw Madonna in concert in Miami. I love to go to museums and theme parks. I used to do cross stitch embroidery before I became interested in art. I am an avid backyard birdwatcher. I like to swim, but don't get many opportunities to do so. I like to take vacations trips by car, and if I can afford to I like to go on cruises.
I watch tv, and love all the Law and Order, CSIs and other court and crime shows. I very rarely if ever, watch sit-coms. However, I am a dyed in the wool Seinfeld fan, love the Simpsons, Family Guy, American Dad, Squidbillies, Aqua Teen Hunger Force, the Oblongs, Dr Who, Torchwood and probably some others I am leaving out. I enjoy movies, musicals, good dramas, period costume dramas and of course chick flicks.
I love to sing, and was very active in our church's contemporary choir, and I was a cantor. I have been known to karaoke without too much persuasion.
anisia85
I'm not very active as my time is limited due to Uni (I am doing two schools in parallel). But when I have some free time, besides the recent drawing obsession, I love to read, I play the piano once in a while (a new found love after years of not playing) and I also enjoy several TV shows (House, Grey's Anatomy, Supernatural, Criminal Minds).
Garyfallia
Apart from drawing I love photography !!! Also I really like cooking xaxaxa !!

Here are some of my favorite photos I have taken !! I think I will make a new album of my photos so everyone could see them and get inspiration !!!

ohmy.gif HOLY COW! I am completely AMAZED at the amount of patience you have! There is no way possible that I could ever attempt something like that! I can barely sit still for 2 hours to finish a drawing (and I hate not finishing what I start in one sitting), let a lone do what you have with this!

I am so jealous tongue.gif !
You go girl! lol
oliverandjazz
Thank you very much sarah..as a young girl ( i come from a large family of 9 brothers and 6 sisters) I always dreamed of having a dollhouse, but i was bounced from family to family and it just never happened..but i always longed for one and used to create my own with crayons and scissors and cardboard boxes..i had to wait till i was 40 years old to get a dollhouse and i had to make it myself..so i wanted it to be very very special wink.gif
kim1963
what kind of clay did you use for the chairs and stuff ?? I have polymer clay I make babies out of ..is it the same .. and how do you get it colored .?

Gary I love your photos ....very nice .
oliverandjazz
Sculpey polymer clay the flesh or peach colored kind that comes in a green/white box..i hand painted all of it..no colored clays were used..yes the same kind you make babies with..i make those too kim.they are so precious..i dont have any at the moment as all were given as gifts
kim1963
I still have the first one I ever made .. some were just given as gifts like you have done .. people just love them !

Beautiful work, Kay -- what a labor of love!

Here is the kit-built dollhouse I did for Danielle about 7 years ago. Barbies lived in it (they live there still, but they don't get out much anymore smile.gif ), with their own plastic furniture, Pizza Hut kiosks, horses, and other paraphernalia. Dani is somewhat bigger now!

As to what else I do: I'm a software developer. I've written a couple of books (on computer stuff, would love to write fiction, have never made the time) and I read a lot. I used to build furniture before the kids started consuming my weekends (tables, chairs, bookcases, an entire set of kitchen cabinets for a house we renovated in California.) I do a little robotics. I'm an assistant soccer coach. I play too much Wii. I enjoy cooking. I grow vegetables in the summer. And I don't get nearly enough sleep.
oliverandjazz
that is a lovely barbie house Ernest.. that wii sounds great, i really want to get one and i like the looks of those exercise games, at least they came up with a computer game that makes the kids get UP and off the couch and moving biggrin.gif

kim1963
My mom has one and loves it ...my sisters kids have the latest video stuff ..they get online with it from the TV and play against others .. but the Wii keeps you moving .

My kids never really got into video games ....even today they dont care for them .. I did not want them to play them all day so I never bought them ..but I think it does do good for the eye hand cordination .

Wow, there's a lot of busy people here at Drawspace ! Kay, wow ! That's a great dollhouse. Nice photos, Garyfallia !
I have 3 boys at home (4,3 and 2) with a lot of energy, so you can imagine the time I spend with them roughplaying, teaching them biking, playing soccer, etc. I also do a bit of bicycle mechanics, mostly during the summer. I have a few younger neighbors in my apartment building that come to me with their bike troubles, and I'm always happy to help 'em. I also rebuild a handful of bikes for people around me looking for inexpensive bikes. I do a bit of robotics with my little brother (no programming involved - sorry Ernest !). And I'm into RPG (think Dungeons & Dragons) and music (guitar and drums) with my best buddy.
kim1963
D&D ...that games gets such a bad rep.....but I have played and I really enjoy it ..for me its kinda like living in a story book .
Kaly
wow I'm amazed with your house Kay...wonderful job and how much pacience wub.gif

Ernest your house is lovely too wub.gif

Kim I bet your's is also lovely wink.gif

Lovely photos too...

You all have such a busy life...wow

My life is kind of dull right now...But I'm mostly a very happy person smile.gif
so about me...besides drawing and painting, well, I love arts and crafts, I like to knitt sweaters, hats, scarfs...I love to dance, but my leg (hip) doesn't alow me to dance much, I love to watch the ocean. I love to be surounded by friends...these days is kind of hard to manage that...I'm a good joke teller wink.gif I love to talk, I also like singing, sometime I sing in karaokes (haven't done it in a while) but I'm aware that I would never be a singer laugh.gif
I love helping others in any way I can, I help my neighbour kids with their homework.
I love animals, I have to lovely cats right now, they sleep with me in my bed wink.gif
I also like to play some computer games when I'm not in the mood for drawing.
I like to read and listens to music.
I love to travel...but that is something I cannot aford to do much sad.gif I would love to visit China, Egipt, Japan, Australia....amoung many other places.
ElenaM
Wow, Kay, you have such wonderful talent in making tiny things come to life!

Great stuff everybody! Ernest, Kim, Garyfallia, et alii.

I used to do web design, greeting cards from photographs and also flash. See my site
flash ecards.
I love cooking and i have a gourmet cooking site with recipes from around the world with photos step by step.recipes with photos.

I also used to make rag dolls, and old DS members remember my photos of the Goldilocks and the three bears hand puppets I made for a 2 year old neighbor as a birthday gift.

Click to view attachmentClick to view attachmentClick to view attachment
I also write poetry, prose, essay in English, prose,Spanish, Romanian.

I love philosophy and history and read and write on these subjects. My philosophy blog

in 1994 I wrote a story for children which I illustrated myself. You can see it online:
Roy Gilroy in the Children's House

But since March 25, 2008 I dedicated most of the time to drawing, experimenting with 6 media.
kim1963
Elena you sure are busy ...nice sites ....do you make all your own cards from your own art work ? they are real cute .
ElenaM
Kim, I do two things: one is I make flower or object arrangements which I photograph, make cards and place on a site where you can add the music you like.
Spring Greetings

The other thing I do is to take free animation from the web and make my own animated musical cards with a free flash program.

When I'm not drawing, I like to write gothic horror stories concerning vampires with a bit of erotica mixed in. I recently wrote one such short story that I want to try and get published.

Lets see..I work part time at a school. I have a 2 year old grandson that I watch after work most days till his mama gets out of her work. I have three kids at home to keep on track( Husband, daughter, and of course..Tucker the dog). Most of my spare time is spent with a pencil or other drawing tool which some weeks is very limited. I also have sewn formal dresses for weddings and tried a quilt which looked quite like a rag rug when I was finished so I do admire those of you who can use your hands and imagination to build doll houses and the like from wood and cloth. What I would really like to learn.. is to bake breads. I can build a house with the bread I attempt.
Kat
kim1963
Rsine I also love to write ....my niece can write the types of stories you are talking about and she is pretty good at it .. would love to read some of your writtings .

Kat ...my Ex husband can bake bread ...it looks just like the kinds you see in movies ,,the long tube shapped bread with the egg glaze on top ...its soft on the inside and the outside has just a big of thickness to his crust ....I think it is the only thing he knows how to bake .

Rsine,
I am interested in reading your stories if they are in English, I like such stories. In fact, I have written one vampire story myself (in Turkish).
It has been a long time since I wrote my last story. Nowadays I am more in sculpting. I am not as good as you guys, though smile.gif I use ordinary soap as material. I carve the soap and give it a shape. You can find examples in my gallery.

A whole dollhouse? That sounds SO very cool. I had a little one when I was little with the tiniest little furniture.. My little cousin (I'm old enough to be her aunt!) got this HUGE one for xmas last year. It's all plastic though, and so very not authentic. I'm sure yours is just beautiful. I did some sculpture myself in high school and loved it. Kudos to you!
