smile.gif Kay. I'm speechless! That is a fantastic acheivement! Very impressive. There is a lot of talent floating around these forums!

This is some miniture stuff I'm working on at present.

I think I'm a bit like Sarah. I like to finish things I start in the same day. One reason I use watercolour.

Ok as promised here is how I bake bread:

I hope it helps cause I don't really measure things, I do it all by eye smile.gif

ingredients:
flower
baking powder, (yeast) a bit of hot water to dilute the yeast
salt and water

put the flower in a bowl, I ussaly use 1kg and sart adding the diluter yeast, and a pinch of salt.
Mix it all very nicely with your hands!! continue to add some water as you go... the more you mix it the better..until it starts bubling ( I hope I'm making any sence)

then leave it to rest for at least one hour
light the oven
when the oven is hot, shape pieces of the paste as you wish and cover them with some dry flower, just enought for them not to get sticky.
put them in the oven and wait for them to be cooked.

bon apetit.

Steve, lovely miniture smile.gif I too like to get things finished very fast, I would never have Kay's pacience...
I took a look at your music site...lovely music wub.gif

Hi everyone, it is interesting to see what other people are doing, Kay and Songsparrow the minitures are fantastic, well done.

What else do i do besides art...i am an advertising executive so at the moment my life is pretty hectic, on the sporting side i sail in the ocean just off Lagos Nigeria, surfski in Ghana and paddle the Duzi and other rivers in South Africa when i can.

I travel throughout africa and internationally on business,so i spend a lot of time attending cultural functions, living with the people as well as visiting with kings, cabinet ministers and chieftans from the different regions.

Listening to classical music, collecting antiques, coins, artwork and indian cooking is my passion .I dabble in Thai chi,Feng shui, and my worst nightmare learning french.

Once every six months i get to see my family and friends back home, i live in a compound with armed gaurds at the gate 24 hours around the clock. There are six staff members who cook and clean and drive for me so i do very little around the house.

When i have a free weekend i spend it on the beach at the beach house, swimming in the ocean and exploring shipwrecks on the coastline.

Regards Wayneo

Great miniature houses and furniture here. I used to do something similar years ago when my kids were small. Right now, somewhere in the barn there may be a house half finished. One day when I have absolutely nothing else to do, I'll dig it out and see what its like.

What do I do besides art?

I'm a chartered herbalist and grow my own and use organic medicinal and culintary herbs as well as vegetables and fruit.
I raise free range poultry - geese, ducks, chickens, as well as pigs. I like to know what I eat and how it is treated. Everyone should know where their food comes from.
I design and create jewelry using natural materials where possible - stones or wood and sterling silver accents.
Besides working full time, that pretty much fills my day - and night!

Quite right. Mine comes from Sainsburys. smile.gif

My wife and I grow a few things at the bottom of the garden. Potatoes, carrots, Brocolli, Beans, Peas, Tomatoes, cucumbers etc. We also care for two rescued battery hens! (it was three but one died recently) So they supply us with eggs. Not too many now as they are getting on a bit! smile.gif

Hi everyone! I am a Sr. Unix admin, so 8-10 hours of the day are spent working, lucky for me I get to work from home since the office is 500 miles away. When not working, I have lots of chores to do with the wife's 10 cats.. always hair and puke to clean up~!~
When not cleaning something I have been know to do home improvement projects and dabble in gardening but not much room for a garden.
Before I got into the IT field (started as a programmer), I used to be an automobile mechanic, so I can do just about anything mechanical if I can find the appropriate information.

Back in 2000 , my wife got me interested in Halloween, she had always loved it and I did not. But I guess I needed an artistic release and this was it, building neat stuff that the neighborhood kids loved. Each year around August I would start building the BIG prop of the year.. now I have no place to store the stuff..
This hobby lead me to buy an airbrush and learning how to use it allowed me to learn my mother was WRONG, I could render drawing and paintings without the magical born in talent she had insisted was required!!!

Now I am not all that interested in the Halloween stuff, it has gotten so each year it has to be a bigger more expensive more WOW project and I have no place to store the stuff and don't want to invest the time and money.
Last year I made my wife do the project (I only helped by showing her how to do some things she was not familiar with) she made the girl and well from the movie The Ring. You can see pictures from a few of the years along with some video of some of the mechanical props.

Pictures and videos of the displays can be found here.

What do I do in my free time?
Well I'll tell you some in a rhyme.

The cello I attempt to play
otherwise I'd sleep all day.

I sometimes do the numbers game
which compared to I.T. work is tame.

A web or two or three or four
sometimes I get requests for more.

I teach the little ones the music way.
And sometimes sub for big ones per day.

I love to travel to different places.
It's always fun to meet new faces.

I like nature but in small doses.
Sometimes there's thorns in those roses.

Hiking and camping is fun for awhile.
If I told you all, this would go for a mile

Meantime, I hope I've made you smile.

Seriously, those doll houses are truly AMAZING!!!
DS has an interesting group of people inhabiting it.

I am an high school art teacher so I have the wonderful opportunity to dabble in art all day long. Different than doing your own thing, but still art.

I also have a small garden in the summer - only tomatoes and green peppers but I can't wait to have that first bite of a fresh, delicious home grown tomato!! Mmmmmm ... I can almost taste it now! I also plan to work on the flower portion of my yard this summer - last summer didn't pan out since my counts were low the entire time and the doctor's office said "no, no, no" to playing in the dirt!

I spend many hours with my grandchildren, too. They are over quite often; in fact my daughter and youngest two come and have lunch at school with me almost everyday.

I do spend a little time at home with my own art, as can be seen when I actually post something. I also like to work around my house with decorating and home projects. I enjoy working with wood - I particularly like to find old pieces of furniture that no one else wants, remake them into something different; maybe even put two or three pieces together and create larger cupboards, sideboards, etc. I have a few pieces around the house that I have remade.

Now that I am actually listing, there are many, many things I enjoy. smile.gif

I can't even tell you how much fun that was to see your Halloween projects .. You always hear about those who spend countless hours putting out Christmas Decorations but not so much at Halloween.. !! My youngest son and I were the only ones who loved that Hallowed Night .. We would dress up and Decorate the house and Hated to see the day go.. I had an Intercom located at my front door and when the doorbell would ring My Mom would do her famous Witchy voice impression ( quiet convincing ) and I would open the front door as soon as she would finish ( dressed in my best Witchy costume ) and The screams that I would get was Priceless.. My son sat out on the stoop and pretended to be a stuffed limp looking guy dressed in spooky bloody stuff and after they got their treats he would suddenly come alive .. Talk about FUN.. His orders were not to scare the really young kids ....never wanted to Send them in to Nightmares,, but it never failed as hard as we tried It would happen at least once ..
My son now has his own family and the tradition lives on with his children.. Sadly I no longer go to the extremes as in the past .. Moved to the country and I may see one or two trick or treaters ...Not worth the efforts any more..
Thanks for sharing your amazing tireless talent.. Great Stuff !!

I wasnt sure if I should jump in here,as my life aint really that exiting..well,for others that is smile.gif But,I just had to say something about the houses you guys are making/have made; truly amazing, lovely work ! happy.gif
So,as I have started I can just continue smile.gif

I used to work, but thanks to my husband ,I can now relax and treat my ulcer and various other issues coming from years of stress and high bloodpressure... So,I had some difficulty filling my days at first, but now I am finding some balance with the drawing, ofcourse:),daily laps of running and walking, spending much more quality time with my sons, and the usual things that needs to be done around the house.

I used to make greeting cards, which I got a reasonable extra little income of,and enjoyed very much. I love photography, and my camera is always with me.
We are planning to move this summer,so I have placed 'an order' to my husband; I really, really want a garden!.... I would love to grow my own vegetables.
I am a bit of a 'do it yourself' person and like a personal and unique 'touch' in my home,so I have usually made my own curtains, bedsheets and tablecloths.I also like to paint and design the rooms myself, and I am working on designs for my kids bedrooms and furniture,so I will probably have a lot of work ahead of me this summer...
Another little passion of mine is cross stitching.I usually make pictures to frame from my own drawn patterns,I like them best on the wall and not on a table or the sofa...We have a big family,so none of the pictures are hanging on my own walls though...
Otherwise,I love reading.Currently working my way thru 'The lucifer effect' and an interesting book about emotional intelligence.
After we move,I plan to start taking tennis lessons, and getting my driverslicense(its certainly about time!!)

There is many other things I would like to do,but the time just wont stretch that far for me... maybe some time in the future happy.gif

I uploaded some of my photos which I think might be interesting. But,now the same photos are in the gallery in my profile... if I delete them there will they also disappear from the public gallery?

Yes they will delete from the public gallery.
Don't worry when you start an album of your artwork it will come first.

Oh well,I'll just go see if it works... smile.gif

Wow all the houses are so pretty! Kay and Kim you two have done wonderful work, and lots of patience is required for such work. Just great. I would not be able to make such an elaborate one as you kay.

As a child I too had often thought about making a doll house but never got time and had not much idea on the finer aspects of it.
May be I too will have to wait when I get enough time at a later age, like Kay.

Besides sketching, I like to do stitching, knitting, embroidery, reading books and playing scrabble in my free time.
Like art, embroidery is also my passion and I love to do it. Recently I emroidered a bed cover in chikan work and gifted it to my cousin.

If any one is interested in hand embroidery and wishes to learn Traditional Indian embroidery stitches, I will gladly teach you. (yes it is possible even though we live far away from each other). Webcam will help us.

Anyone else likes to play scrabble here? Will you like to play a game or two with me?

[ I've been away for a long period (almost a year of inactiveness). Unfortunately my study didn't allow me to spend much time on drawing. Last christmas my parents gave me a paintingcourse to stimulate me to pick up my drawing and try something new by touching a paintbrush for the very first time. So from now on, I intend to spend more time on this forum. --> will be good for my english too wink.gif]

In a reaction to this topic:

Wow, you are all so extremely talented! smile.gif
Í would really love to have the patience to work on a great project like the dollhouses you made! Very impressive!
When I was a little girl, I always dreamed of having such a dollhouse for my barbies. I usually made rooms with small furniture out of lego for my girls to live in. wink.gif
I also love the photo's of the halloween parties. It is a shame that we don't have the celebration of halloween in the Netherlands, dutch people are way too serious wink.gif (and a shame too that one of the few nice celebrations we have, queen's day, got ruined too)

As to what I do in my time:
I spend most of my time on my study Industrial Engineering and Management. At the moment I'm working on my bachelor thesis, for which I'm performing a research on how to reduce the size of waitinglists in a hospital called 'het Deventer Ziekenhuis'. Besides that I recently moved to live with my boyfriend, so we are trying to find the routine of keeping the house clean and tidy. I also work in a cafe, were I have the important job of distributing beer to students wink.gif
In the real 'me-time' I sing in a close-harmony group, which means one practicesession a week. And I recently finished with a course on drawing and painting. -> I will put the results online as soon as possible, because I like to know what you think and what hints you can give me.) In the weekends I try to visit my parents at least twice a month, I spend some time with friends, simply drinking a beer, have a talk, watch a movie, nothing special really.

Maybe not such exciting hobbies as the ones you write about, but I still have time enough to try different things 'when I grow up'. wink.gif

This little stuff is wonderful !!
So true, so really- like the plates.
When i was a child, i got a kitchen from my mother, which she got from her father, was made before 1920. All from wood. like really furniture. Table, kitchen chair, in white and blue- with linoleum and right metal fittings, the table was 8 cm in high.
I like the small world.

And what else to do: i am playing guitar too, but without talent (others like in draw and paint, i have to learn and to learn and nothing comes from alone) and i am singing with pleasure, but without talent too.
I love my birds and i like to stroll with cockatoo and husband though the horse willow
oliverandjazz
thanks guys, Welcome to drawspace, I am sure you will find it the perfect place to hang out.

Wow, you all continue to amaze me... Kay and Steve with your houses, the travels and adventures for many, I'm very jealous of such talent.

As I am just beginning my full-time career (I am a receptionist and admin asst. on an executive floor at Target Headquarters,) my art unfortunately becomes only a hobby that I "get to" when I seem to find time. Aside from my majors in Communications and English writing, I have an "undeclared art minor." Meaning I took the right number of classes in college for the minor, but not the "correct" courses (I skipped the foundations, 2d & 3d.)
Most of my work stays hidden in my sketchbooks, though I've done some oil paintings for family members. I dabble in all areas and have taken just about every class under the sun between high school and college... though keeping it up is much like keeping up a foreign language.

Aside from the (little) art I do, I'm an avid reader. I also love to write-- though lately more of this goes on in my head and never makes it to paper, haha. I enjoy traveling as often as I can, although this too, has been rather limited lately due to lack of funds. I'm looking forward to being outside more and more as spring turns to summer and the Minnesota weather warms up, taking my Bichon for walks around the lake, boating, and getting a tan!

Long story short, I feel like I'm in somewhat of a holding pattern as I get more into the "real world," and look forward to learning more from all of you amazing, inspiring artists!
oliverandjazz
thank you Alcarey, it would seem that you are indeed one busy person with a respectable career, the drawing time will come.. wink.gif

I love sports. In elementry school I was very sporty and drew sometimes. But in highschool I'm more into drawing and play sports sometimes. If it were up to me I would love to more sports, like be on the basketball team, but in high school its hard to make sports.
I like taking pictures.

that is a nice photo. here it is hard too for high school sports, my son was interested in football, which is not offered, only basketball and baseball. he played one season of base ball, he really didnt care for it. He played ice hockey all thru high school. now that is a mean sport, i spent most of my time with my eyes closed i think
