Hi Everybody!! My name is Venus and I will be your drawing host for the new Draw Challenge. If you have any questions for anything just let me know and I will reply back to you as soon as possible. There aren't many rules to the draw challenge as many of you know as long as you don't paint with anything and use dry mediums, such as pencils, pens, colored pencils, charcoal and such. The pictures I have chosen are pretty easy and I hope they all fit into everyones level of expertise. Let me know if you don't like them or think they may be to hard.

During the course of trying to merge and remove duplicate challenge threads this morning I lost the wonderful ref. images that were posted for our use. I did try to retrieve them from the land of the lost but was not able to repost them.

Thank you for reposting the pics Venus - they are all very interesting.

I think my eyes and back need a little break right now... but I'll start working on one of these in a couple of days (if my hands can keep still that long! ). I love these challenges.

Paper: Hahnemuhle 40lb sketch paper
Pencils: 2H and 4B regular; HB and 2B mechanical
Shading: Hatching and blending.
Degree of fun: Cloud 9

Ok here is my drawing for the Draw Challenge. I decided to go with the Lighthouse (couldn't get the other pics to work for me). I used regular #2 mech. pencil on canson sketch paper. Total time spent on it about an hour.

As the new weekly host I felt it was my duty to at least try to draw some of my challenge pictures. I decided to take a break from portraits at the moment being as how I got frustrated with Megan's picture...lol. (She loved it though! ) So I went and drew the hot air balloon with a cartoon camel on it instead of the whole carasel theme. I think its cute in a cartoonie way. I used canson sketch paper and color-erase colored pencils. ( Not sure if I like them so much, I noticed that if I didn't have a piece of paper under my wrist that it bled onto the white of the paper.) Anyways, still waiting to see more participants in the challenge!!! Where is everyone?

venus wow. i love both of them. you did great especially only taking an hour. beautiful job.

Tehobu...you did a fantastic job!!! I tried that one and realized it was kinda hard to make a drawing of water flowing, so then I tried to draw my son and then my step granddaughter and realized I suck at people because I need way more practice...so I did the easy other two...

For a moment there I thought you meant you made it go uphill! Nice rendering Ted.

Kim no I didn't ride the balloon, afraid of heights..you can't even get me on a plane for a free trip to Germany.. (Brian has tried..hahaha) My stepdaughter took that picture last year when she was on vacation.

OK people,please don't go comparing tismyself's and my drawing. We use two completely difference method of drawing.Tismyself use 'Talent' and I use 'Parkinson'.With my shaking hands,Circulism came easy.I just put my pencil in hand on a piece of paper and after a short nap,and a little blending;I have a picture!
Venus,don't forget the paper bag method! Just draw the creek at night the way I did this one.

I give up,,couldn't get the picture to load.

Great Job, Cyn!!!! I tried to draw my grand daughter and my son and drawing them just wouldn't work so I went for the other two I did. Kinda like the practice on the landscapes. I took a break from people. I will get back to it soon though.

Deeana is so adorable I had to try it, but babies are really hard to draw. I wish I could have done her justice. I looked at the kids a long time because I like to practice with people. But I usually do Native Americans or actors or something adult. And structures, like the lighthouse are just beyond me. I love this challenge forum though.. These always have such a good variety. It just takes a while to decide what I want to struggle with. Although these 3 I did in about an hour. I should have slowed down, which is the hard part but I'll slow down sooner or later..

Tehobu, please don't sell yourself short. You have a very nice rendering of the creek in a valid techinque.
I've just been able to put alot of time into drawings here lately. This one was a good ten hours at least.

Hi everyone!
These weekly challenges are great. I needed something to motivate me (more for the lack of inspiration of what to draw) and drag me away from my computer to draw since work has been keeping me busy. I think I might have even felt a muscle or two relax working on it.

Here is my attempt at the light house.

Great lighthouse Writers Widower, You even put in REAL bushes, I just squiggled some.

Thanks Venus. I did use ink. my poison of choice (I LOVE Staedtler drawing pens). I hope to keep posting around here... I have been lured into 3 threads and challenges so far, and am sure more to come.

Hi everyone, I joined drawspace Dec. 21 But have only received one Drawing challenge in Dec. Haven't received any e-mail since although I have to admit didn't participate. Both my parents are sick so am spending most of my time at Hospital, But I still like to hear from you guys. I don't really know how to go about getting on board sort of speak but love the site. Pam, I am not sure there is a email about the drawing challenges. You basically have to just come to General Discussion forums and read the post. Or atleast thats what I do. You can join in anytime doesn't matter how many days are left or not. They are fun and glad to see you arounf the forums. Just jump in anytime.

Ok, can't resist any longer. I need to jump in these weekly challenges.
It' just a quick sketch (it's a rule to say so, just to let everybody know that it did not take too much time to complete and that we all are soooo good at drawing ) that did not take more than two hours!! I'm soooo quick. My one year old baby did better in half an hour

Very nice work being done here - I really like all the lighthouses. And all the little streams, whether the right way round or in reverse, have been really excellent too.

These drawing challenges are excellent motivation and it's always so pleasant to see new faces joining in every time.

Being completely unable to render water just makes those streams all the more impressive to me. I wouldn't even know where to start, and all the ones here look very good.

This is my first time drawing a baby, and they are very odd... Cute kid, but I kept thinking everything was a little off. I hope I haven't mangled her to badly, especially if you know her.

Wintermind...the baby looks adorable, you didn't mangle her. Just keep practicing and I am sure you will get it down.

wow everyone is doing great this week. really love seeing all the light houses and winterwind your drawing of the baby is really good. it is very hard to do babies. i havent even started yet. been sick again with sinus and been so busy just trying to keep up with kids and house and school. but i will try to make time time tonight. great job everyone.

Great challenge Venus..... I admire every one's drawings..... Well I have been busy but did a quick sketch of the light house.....so here is my leaning tower of Pizzza, I think it looks like it is may fall down...

I think your light house is great, Brian. It looks like it's near the wind swept sea. Just as a lighthouse should look. Good job ..

Hope you don't mind David,my crew went out to the light tower and spent all day on it.I believe it will stand for a while loner now.They had a little time left so they put a new paint job on it too.I'll send you the bill later!
