It definitely points out how much control you need over your pencil to achieve a smooth value consistently. I'm going to start practicing more control.

Shading is not easy....

Seeing values is like seeing the contrast in black and white photography. Felt that my experience with BW photography helped.

Much harder than I thought. While the example ones look smooth, mine look coarse and scratchy. Maybe I'm doing something wrong.
