The Magic Ellipse by Cindy Wider

By Cindy Wider

This lesson takes you step-by-step through the process of drawing an ellipse. You then use your ellipse drawing skills to render a drinking cup and a cookie jar.The ellipse is by far the most magical of all shapes. For example, ellipses can be added to the top and bottom of a straight sided shape to become a drinking cup.

any method is good as long as you reach your goal

Found it easier this way because I struggle with getting the symmetrical thing right. Sure one could draw using a computer but what would that profit one doing this art class?

I agree that Sighting is a faster method of drawing, but I think that this lesson is good for a beginner trying to grasp drawing in perspective. Also an engineers would use computer aided drafting to render this drawing. It would take an engineer forever to complete an drawing of an house with paper and pen. Ouch!

I agree with ineke. If I was doing technical drawing it would be a different story, but we are just drawing; that's an interpretive individual thing.

I think it takes a lot of time to draw this objects. When you look carefully to the objects you can draw them faster en better without the helping lines.
